Hi,

When I was using the A80 in the rain once the screen got some raindrops on it. I left it to dry and ever since then there have been some ring-shaped marls on the screen. They don't really interfere with viiewing the image, but they're a bit distracting.

So far I have tried wiping with a soft damp cloth and a cloth moistened with alcohol. Neither had much effect.

Suggestions welcome.

They're visible even with the camera off, or at one of the Function settings? They should then come off with normal lens-cleaning procedures unless you have really bad acid rain. You might try dampening a cloth with a window washing solution. If the marks don't show up when the display's dark, or in Func., then the marks aren't on the screen, but possibly on the lens or (harder to explain) the sensor. Try looking at the screen with a magnifier to decide whether they may have etched into the glass or are on the surface.

Thanks for the suggestions. The marks are definitely on the screen. They're small semi-transparent rings 2-3mm in diam. I tried window cleaner and bathroom cleaner (non-abbrasive) without any noticeable effect.

Maybe your acid rain theory is right, though it seems pretty surprising!

I just examined the marks with a magnifier. There is no noticeable etching. But what is noticeable is that the screen has non-reflective surface with microscopic bumps on it. If the marks are due to some sort of deposit, the bumps would make it difficult to difficult to wipe it completely off.

You might try with (increasing dosage as necessary) a moderately-moist cleaning cloth or lint-free tissue.
