I know B+H is maybe the obvious answer but are there any other recommendations? I'm soon to be visiting the big apple & I'm slowly getting my wife to agree on letting me get the 100-400L :D , plus maybe a decent tripod if my allowence stretches that far!
Any advice on where I'm likely to get the best price on the lens would be great.
Regards,
Paul.

I bought my 85 f1.8 at 17th St. Photo. That way
you don't have to leave Chelsea and during the
crazy rush hour traffic near Penn Station. Prices
were the same.

Try also Adorama: 42 West 18th Street one block from 17th street photo. But once you get into B&H it'll be hard to get out of that store. It'll be like letting loose a kid in a candy store. Good Luck, I had to drag my Brother-in-Law out of there.

17th street photo.
Though the imported prices of B&H pretty much keeps those Canon lenses within our budgeted reach.

I had a very good experience with 17th Street Photo mail-order. I live on the west coast, and got very prompt service from them in New York.

I'm not from the USA but I've been in NYC a number of times (my brother lives in New Jersey). B&H is photographer heaven. They have everything you want.
Note that there are many small electronics & camera shops around Times Square - AVOID them, the sales people there are rude and try to push you into buying stuff you don't want. They try to take advantage especially of tourists who don't know what equipment is supposed to cost. If you haggle with them a bit, things often are suddenly tens of dollars cheaper. If you walk into such a shop with a camera bag, they immediately jump on you, ask you what camera you have and try to sell you accessories like tele or wide angle converters etc.... :(

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I know how it will go though, my first day there I'll go straight to B&H & emerge several hours later a broke (& maybe single!) but happy man! I've been travelling through Yellowstone & the Rocky Mountain Nat. Parks the last couple of weeks & boy do I wish I had that 100-400L, I dream about it at night!!
I might also get an extender whilst in NY, will the 1.4x or 2x work ok with the 100-400 & my 10D? As I'm starting to shoot more & more wildlife I might go for the 2x option, any advice on this anyone??
Regards,
Paul.
