Couple of things:
1) Needs about a stop to 1.5 stops more exposure. Classic example of in-camera metering wanting to make something 18% grey. When you get this much white in the frame, you have to give it at least a stop more of exposure compensation. Also, since it's digital and 1s/0s are cheap, when it doubt, bracket, bracket, bracket! With a little more exposure pop, you've got a really nice shot.
2) Too much space behind and not enough in front. Did you crop this or was there something just out of frame-left you were trying to exclude that led to cutting off the tip of the bow? Learn to look at all four corners and all four edges of the viewfinder before you pull the trigger.

Thanks for the comment. I was sitting on a ferry that was moving past the ship, so that is why I'm short on the front and long in the back. No cropping was done on the photo.
That's for the explanation on the stops. Something I didn't realize, so thanks.
