Sounds silly, but I see alot in here showing different flash techniques. I'm new to flash and studio and would love to get one to practice lighting. Mannequins probably have more patience than models:p

My dog listens rather well when my girlfriend doesn't. :D :p

Ever asked a dept store? I got some parts once just asking. Gotta ask the right people though. This was before photography and more when I was a college prankster. :D

I got mine from DisplayImporter.com; I can't recommend them enough. When the wig I ordered w/ my head was back ordered, they called me and gave me a higher priced one at the same price.

I got my mannequin on eBay. It is a realistic female head. I use it with one of my wife's nice wigs and the combination is great.

The head was pretty cheap and worth it to avoid a cranky wife or daughter.. Believe me, Ms. Mannequin has a LOT more patience than my wife or daughter.

The only thing that I don't really like is that there are catch lights painted into the eyes. I wish that the eyes were glass or at least that they did not incorporate painted catch lights.

I looked in my image file and I don't have any of Ms. Mannequin. I just use her for tests and don't keep the images usually.

Go to eBay and enter - mannequin head - as the search parameters.

This is not "my" Ms. Mannequin but, seems like it would work...

Just go to your local college. At the cosmotology dept., they get rid of their old heads about twice a year. Since I use them for the shooting range at work, all I have to do is sign for them, but for personal use, you could probably work something out for next to nothing.

This is an image that I shot when I was testing out my 70-200mm f/4L IS lens. It is just straight daylight shot and is not an example of how I light a portrait. It does, however, show that the mannequin head is fairly realistic and except for the painted catch-lights in the eyes; is a great stand-in for a human while I am playing with portrait lighting.

I like to have my lighting just about set up before I sit a human down. The mannequin's patience is unbelievable. She has never complained once that I am taking too long to get set up.

When I shoot my white Maltese dogs, I use a white stuffed animal for a stand-in. The stuffed animal will also have as much patience as Ms. Mannequin while I am setting up.

I'm looking too. I only want upper torso on a stand with a head and arms. Nothing much going for under $150 though. For the amount I'd use it, $50 would be too much! I'll have to keep looking in the bargain shops.

Im also looking :D

I am looking for a full body mannequin, but im not sure how posable they are. Do the full body ones just have the one pose look, or can they be adjusted for different poses?

The cheapest I have even seen one is $250

Thanks for that link Curtis, I think this is my new model ;)

I would perfer a brown one, but I couldnt find one with a nice body and pose like this.

I would really like one with flexible arms LIKE THIS (http://cgi.ebay.com/Display-Mannequin-Female-Dress-Form-Flexible-Sara_W0QQitemZ150153994782QQihZ005QQcategoryZ10797 QQcmdZViewItem), brown and have a body like the one Curtis posted. If anybody runs across one while searching let me please know.

On a side note I wonder if I could clear coat polish the eyes to get a cacthlight (HMMM)

On a side note I wonder if I could clear coat polish the eyes to get a cacthlight (HMMM)I would think you could just paint over the fake catchlights with a gloss black enamel.

... and spray paint the rest of her brown. :D

Well, I just picked mine up at Hair World. Had to wheel and deal and probably spent too much, but it was local. They sold me a mannequin head with a wood screw in her neck for $20 and threw in some hair for $5 more. I'll post pics when I figure out this lighting business. I'm doing it without a flash meter, so it's tough.

That's a good price, Bob.

I have 2 - they were hairdressers practise models - hair salons can buy 'em in for their apprentices to get experience.

Mine came with a few facial blemishes (the hairdressers daughters tried some makeup techniques with a permanent marker) but the price was a bit cheaper than what Bob paid. ;)

I have plenty of light stands - so I just mount the heads on the top of the stands - gives me height adjustment - but they look kinda anorexic...

My wife has never exhibited one bit of jealousy over my relationship with Ms. Mannequin. She is not the jealous type but, I am thinking that the close photographic relationship that I have with Ms. Mannequin might bother her if Ms. Mannequin were a real lady.

i nearly scored one recently from a mens clothing store, they had no problem with me taking it until they found out i was a photographer (budding one at that) and then they must have seen $$$$ signs so they wanted to hit me with a fee lol
