I completed an Olympic distance triathlon in Dallas at the end of October (1 mile swim, 25 mile bike and a 6.2 mile run). The start was staggered and I finished in 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Four days before the race I had a pretty bad bike accident. That explains the nastinees on my right leg.

I think the photographers were using Canon gear. ;) I adjusted the levels and sharpened these a bit in PS.

That is awesome, Josh. Your new title should definitely be IRONMAN.

I've been running five miles at a clip lately, but I'd surely drown before attempting a mile swim.

Way to go.

Thats amazing. How long did you train?

Mark, the mile swim would be the easy part for me (swim about 3.5 miles 3 days a week). I couldnt do all that running for the life of me though.

Congratulations...:) I have a daughter that was into Triathlons she did a few of the longer distance. I know the hard work and dedication thats needed for you to compete. Good luck for any future events. May be the Hawaiian....:)

Nice job! That's a really good time, too. I was trying to equate that to something I knew, and I figured that at my very best, I could do the run (20 years ago) and the biking (now) in just over that time. I would easily sink short of 1 mile (heck, short of 0.1 mile).

Amazing feat! The photogs did a good job, too.

Thanks, Mark. Nah, Olympic Distance doesn't qualify me as an Ironman. I bet you can swim farther than you might think.

Thanks! I did two Sprint Distance triathlons (1/3 mile swim 10.25 mile bike and a 3.1 mile run) in the month leading up to this race. I've been training pretty hard since February. I have one more Sprint in December and then another Olympic in April. The real bummer is that all my training is before and after work...right when the light is best for photography. I cannot tell you how many great pictures I'm missing these days because I'm running or in the pool or on my bike.

Josh, Congrats on the race!

Be careful, they're addictive and all consuming. I'm about to do number five on December 8th....three months after number 1.

Thanks, Mike. Give yoiur self some credit....I'm sure you could break 24 hours. ;)

Congrats that is quite the accomplishment!

Thank you.

Yes, I believe they are. They cost a pretty penny too.

I think I'll be sticking with the Olympics and the Sprints for now but you never know. Thanks!

Delts? Um, I need to bone up on my muscle groups I guess. :) Thanks Renee.

A little cropping didn't hurt these photos. ;) I bet you'd do better than you think. The ages ranged from 20 to 79 in this race.

Cheers everyone!

Off topic: isn't the guy a little fat for this kind of adventures? :p

Hey Josh I just saw this! I didn't know that you were into tri. I used to dabble in it years ago, but the running part hurts my knees. Now I stick to bikes. What bike do you have, I am curious. That is quite a feat, congratulations! If you ever have a race here in NYC I'll be glad to take photos.

Hey, I am that guy and I, like most folks, am a bit sensitive about weight comments! I'm 6' 1" and was 181 pounds for this race. I was 182.2 this morning. I don't think that suit is the most flattering. Buy I'm just happy to have my BMI in the normal range to be honest with you. :)

Many thanks, BB. The run is the hard part for me as well. I'm real strong in the swim though. I finished sixth out of 1,400 in the swim. But finished in the middle of the pack (slightly above the median) in my age group for the whole race.

I ride an Orbea Ordu tri bike with Dura Ace comps in races and I ride an Orbea Opal road bike with SRAM Force comps for group rides. I have a TREK hard tail mountain bike for trips to the bank, post office and convenience store. The panier on that bike will hold a 12-pack...possibly explaining why I cant seem to stay below 180 pounds. ;)

OK, here is one more from my most recent race, a Sprint (1/3 mile swim, 10.25 mile bike and 3.1 mile run).

Again, the start was staggered. My time was 1:06.

Sheesh, do I look fat in this one too?

That's awesome. Keep it up.

Do I get a break or do I have to do it straight through? ;) I am not in that bad of shape. A little training and I could do it. Not sure about the 2:45 though. I think you would still have me beat. :)

Just messing with you, Mike. ;):D

How about you start with a sprint? You could finish it no problem with little training in under an hour and twenty minutes. There's one here on December 8th sponsored by Mich Ultra. We have a guest bed for you and I'll be racing.

No doubt. Damn, some people are thick-headed.

AeroSmith - I'm jealous! I miss my heavy running days. But having gone from 150-300 lbs over the past few years I don't see myself out there again anytime soon. Shame on me. Good for you!!

You have my admiration. I used to love to run but I ran just for fun and never competed. I have a daughter that runs marathons and would like to try a triathalon but she doesn't have time to do all the training. You have to be very dedicated during training and give up other things - like photography.
