Well, after four days in the woods, I came back today in anticipation of what I had missed........and I missed a lot............

It's 1:10 am and I just saw the first posted pics of the 20D at ISO 3200. I must say, I am impressed!!!

I will definitely own this camera. If not now, then sometime in my lifetime :-)

Yup, very impressive!
I totally missed it the first time rj!
I was looking at the resolution charts, and it looks very impressive too, although DP's tally at the bottom shows it to be the same as the MKII and 10D, which seems weird.
All in all, very impressive, and I want one NOW!

Yep indeed, I was looking for a darker photo in the thumbnails so I missed the on shot in 3200.

That looks great! Now, if ISO 3200 is that good on the 20D, why doesn't the camera have even higher settings - ISO 6400 ??

Steve's Digicams has various ISO shots too.
BTW, it looks like he has a hot pixel (look at the monkey's eye).

drisley,
These photos look like better examples than the dpreview ones. I was gobsmacked when i saw their 3200 tank photo, but the samples above look more accurate (no resizing etc).

I hope that the production sensors do have less...
there's another one a bit left and down from the one you saw and a pink spot on the left part of the wood in the lower part of the picture...

Woah!! (smacks self in head)

Canon's really ticking me off making the 20D so good. :)

I personally would like to see an ISO 3200 taken in a low light situation. That's where you can really tell how good the high ISO settings are because the color noises tend to show up better in the darker areas.

I agree with you wholeheartedly Leo. I've seen a couple of different sets of sample shots now and they haven't illustrated any low light conditions on this camera yet.

True that...........but you have to agree with these samples..........the added 2 mpixel did not affect image quality at all.

Yes, absolutally

I remember canon has claimed noise at 1600 is similar to the 10D at 400 (or somesuch)
The grey noise tests on DPreview look good but i havent yet checked that close

Luminous landscape claims little difference to the 10D so there is some variation in these pre production model cameras one assumes

I have a question.
The images are clean because of the sensor level noise reduction stuff...

Did canon have this on any other DSLRs ?

Of course they always tried to incorporate some measures to counter image noise, but the two new features cited (micro lenses and enhancing the signal several times) are firsts on the 20D - according to the press releases.

The DIGIC II chip was already on the 1DII.

Best regards,
Andy

The improvements made to the 20D arnt going to allow you to take better photos, they are going to allow you to take better photos easier.

There may be another hot pixel on the green base of the M&M character, between the feet.

Pretty crisp though....When is the 'Official' mass rollout of the 20D. I'm sure it'll be available in limited quantities early on....by the Christmas season perhaps?
