hi guys, i bought a fisheye lense from NY when i used my A70. and now with a 58-52mm ring, i can attach it to my 300D kit lense.
but my question is when i used this lense, the image quality is very poor... ESPECIALLY at the edges, i get TONS of purple fringing... even red and yellow fringing: kinda like a projector big screen tv when the RBG projectors arent aligned properly so u can see a red image, blue image, and green image...

i think it's a no name brand... it says "titanium" on it... cost me $150 US too.... please tell me i got ripped off :?

can anyone confirm these results? and for ppl with fisheye lense please post up some pictures at the widest so i can compare? thnx!!!

I've used quite a few cheap fisheye converters, some of them probably optically identical to the titanium cheapie you have.

You absolutally *HAVE* to stop the main lens down to get half reasonable quality!!!!
But even then there will be noticable bluring towards the edges. They are great for having fun but nothing more than that.Don't even think of trying to use one for a landscape

Notice the 'center outwards' bluring towards the edges, especially the top left

I ordered a "Hi Tek" .42x semifish eye converter off Ebay for about $50 US. It should be arriving today, and I'll post some sample shots in the next few days.

Forgot to say J__
Yes,you did get ripped off!No way are they worth that much

us$50 upwards is more like it,allthough there are two common types. The 0.42x version is cheaper than the stronger 0.25x type

Just got the Hi Teck in the mail....seems like a great piece of hardware at a great price. I will post a somewhat more official review later, but I want to give you an idea of the angle of view.

It is a .42x adapter, on my 50 mm f1.8. It converts the lens into an effective 21 mm.

With .42x adapter:

Without adapter:

I dont know if you just didnt post proc. the second image, but the first looks very nice color and contrast wise.

ron: yea that picture is about what mine looks like with the fisheye =T
my fish eye is actually 2 lenses in 1.. a fisheye-wideangle, and a macro lense connected to it. so i can take fisheye pics or split the lense and take extreme closeups.

but i still doubt i didnt get ripped off :(

I noticed this too, but there was no post production ... in fact the quality of both images is low because I resized them in a small third party program rather than in a professional program like Photoshop. Both of them are straight out of the camera, though. Since the sky is very important to me, I locked the exposure on it but stepped it up 1/3.

The difference in brightness between shot 1 and 2 is probably caused by the lower shutter speed in shot 2. It let it more light. I should have put both of them on manual but I used Av.

Mine has a macro filter as well. It really does take extreme extreme closeups. :)

But I also like how the adapter does very good "regular" macros with very little fish eye or wide distortion. The lens I am using has a minimum focusing distance of a very large 1.5 ft.

wow that is some close macro!! i dont think mine can go that close..

now i cant even use teh fisheye or amcro lense anymore =*(

i just bought the 24-85mm F3.5-4.5 USM and it's a 67mm thread, and i dont think they have a stepdown ring from 67-52mm =T

so i'll be swapping on my cheap kit lense if i wanna do macro again.

and the 24-85mm USM has a pretty far minimum focus range too... cant get anywhere near as close as my kit lense.

Hi,
as I was looking for a fisheye lens for a long time now, I was quite happy to face the Peleng lens.

The 8mm, 180° circular fisheye is a special-use lens and it is the "poor-man's circular fisheye". From the information I have been able to assemble about it, it is produced at the Belomo optical factory in Minsk, Belarus (former USSR). Presumably, it started out as military equipment that is now available to the world for less than 200,- Euro. (I ordered it from Michael Fourman as a representative of www.kievcamera.com )
Although the Peleng is an extreme lens regarding its focal length, it is still quite handy. It can be used freehand although you have the typical fisheye-related problem to keep your hands, legs, or other parts of your body out of the image. 180° field of view is simply challenging! In case you're using a tripod, this problem is even more severe. The tripod legs notoriously tend to become part of the image. A monopod somewhat reduces this problem. Using this lens with a Canon EOS 10D will effectively crop the circular fisheye to that of a 12mm lens which is nearly full frame.

Have a look at these two photos (no postprocessing at all) which were taken with the Peleng lens:
