Hello!
I am finally looking into replacing my trusty A95 and I've not been keeping up with the latest and greatest on Canon's P&S products. I'll tell you what I love about the A95 - vari-screen and manual modes. These are key features I am unwilling to compromise. Can you tell me what is a good replacement for it? Wish that new SX100 has vari-screen....

thanks.

I think I'm gonna look into the a640 or a650... wish the G9 has a vari-screen. :(

Ah.. didn't know the A650 also had the"vari-angle" LCD and is the replacement for the A640.

It is too bad that they removed the "vair-angle" LCD from the G series.

I did a comparo and I actually prefer the a640 to the a650 because of smaller size and the black/chrome body. But it's Digic II only as opposed to a650. I am bummed. Actually I the a95 is fine but it's movie mode is quite archaic and i just don't want to get a camcorder.

The A95 is a fine little camera, good lens and easily carried in a belt pouch but, like you, I was attracted to the additional features offered by the latest Canons.

I looked at the 640 (undoubtedly an excellent camera) but finally bought an S5 and find it's both versatile and capable. I keep a Lensmate adapter and UV filter on all the time for protection, so the unit is definitely bulkier than the A95, but I got a cheap carrying case from Walmart that fits it perfectly, using a shoulder strap quite comfortably.

The best feature about the S5 is the 12x zoom. It means you don't have to carry extra lenses. It opens up a whole new world of possibilities for wildlife photography etc.

I won't sell my trusty A95, though - a perfect little backup camera :)

The S5 was initially my choice too however i find it too bulky as a P&S. I found out that there is a hack for the a640 to shoot RAW! Plus other things like live Histogram, enhance video, motion detection etc.... very cool! if only my a95 could shoot 30fps video! :(

Yes, the A95 video is no good in comparison to the newer cameras. Mine is currently broken so I'm looking for something smaller and with good video so the SD series is what I'm looking at now.

I also like the design and colours of the A640, but will probably go SD series.

SD is too small for my liking. And it doesn't have Av, Tv, P, M modes.
