Its a good capture. I would have preferred to see the entire head and have it fill more of the frame since this is very portrait like. I understand that both of these may not have been on your mind in the heat of the moment.

I love this as I'm a big fan of shallow depth of field, however I agree with OviV and would like to see the top of the head included in the pic. The rest of the framing is fine, I think, as you have sufficient "looking space" for the horse to lead into. I think when a subject fills the frame too much, it can be a bit overpowering. Good call! :)

Good, sharp shot! Nice veins (& teeth)
Try to anticipate what the background will be before you take the shot. Maybe you can't eliminate it, but maybe you can, too.

I havent really had a chance to dive into horse photography, but my parents train race horses and I have pictures ALL over my apartment as well as at my grandparents house and parents pad. I think the quality of the photo is fine, pretty crisp...but the crop and background just dont work for me. Seems like a typical rule of thumb is you always want to get the horses ears in the photo...it signifys their character and mood.

Thank you all for your comments! I am quite happy with them. As the one or other already mentioned, I can confirm that of course I have tried to get another framing, but as it is characteristic for a race to have fast movements, it was a special challenge for me. Thank you all!
