View Full Version : A Close Race for Top Ten Posters

Scottes

Well we have a mighty close "race" for the bottom half of the Top Ten Posters here.
http://www.itsanadventure.com/postimages/topten.gif

I was happy that I finally made it into the top ten after languishing for weeks at #11. But look how close we all are: Only 40 posts separating numbers 7 thru 10, and Conk is not far behind at all.

Golly, I never realized that I talked so much.

There are people who really have nothing better to do than post here :
example : CDS : 6900 post / 16 Months = 430 posts per month = 14 posts per day
(I'm far behind with only 1.69 posts per day...)

But hey... that's what keeps the forum alive :P

A couple thoughts:

First, the serious ones...
1. This time of year, there isn't a lot to do here in the desert besides sit under a fan. I can do that while holding my laptop. As the weather moderates, I'll be outdoors more often, hopefully with camera in hand.
2. Being a moderator involves reading things that I might not otherwise be interested in. The more I read, the more I find things to respond to.

Now, the real stuff...
1. I'm a big-mouth and a know-it-all, and I'll comment on anything (except flash photography which, after all, is really black art...not science).
2. I will never have as many posts as CDS or Marie because they apparently use all ten fingers to type with. This obviously saves them a lot of time and increases their output. I'm also somewhat convinced that one of the reasons Marie is so prolific is that she uses purple text and a random emoticon generator. I'm not sure why purple increases productivity, but the random happy face generator clearly gives her an advantage.
3. I have mastered the art of pointless, inane comments. These allow me to respond without having to give any thought to a subject.
4. I'd be even higher in total posts if I didn't feel obliged to always add a second sentence to my comments in Share Photos. (Example: Nice shot. Is that your finger or an out-of-focus bald guy?)
5. I lost a lot of time reading the lengthy exchanges between Tom_W and John_T. Those things were about the same length as War and Peace.
6. Oh, one more reason CyberDyneSystems has so many more posts than I do.....I will usually run my longer contributions through a spell checker. Clearly he doesn't do that. Or else he needs a new spell checker..

There is still ONE top contributor who will not reveal his location. I think he worries that others will spot him trying to catch up on them.

Last I heard, he had emerged from the wilderness and was headed for California.

I'll provide updates as new information develops.

Yeah, I didn't either! But not that I know, I'll have to make sure that I reply to every one of the posting made by the other people in the top 10 so that I can at least keep pace with them. :D

So, tell me, where's the finish line and what's price for the first person that gets there?

Alas. Being near the top of this list is not necessarily a matter of great pride. I will be willing to sell my post count to anyone wishing to achieve instant 'Top Contributor' status. I may move this thread to Marketplace to see if there are any offers.

Having give this some thought, I believe that Cyberdyne Systems wins the prize, hands down. The prize should be a new dictionary or else a new keyboard. One of those is defective.

No Keyboard..

I have a PS2 port wet-wired into the back of my "Abdulla Oblongata" (sic)

It's performance is crippled by;

A: The PS2 ports inherent speed constraints Vs. the Light speed proceesiing power of my AI infused CPU cluster.

B: It is afflicted with dyslexia (yes.. I am a memebr of D.A.M., Moderators Agaist Dyslexia)

C: The PS2 Cable has frayed ends and kinks in it from repeatedly having to turn to look over my shoulder while posting here at work.

As far as a race? Not even trying.. I just like to see myself virtually type..

I've never claimed to be anything other than long winded!

No Keyboard..

CDS you should switch over to a Dvorak keyboard. Give it a week or two and you will double your words per minute, and at least halve the mitsakes pur minuet.

I would have switched years ago except that I was always in an admin job - I would type on 20 or 30 different keyboards a day. These days I use only 2 - work and home.

Ro1

I'm right behind you...er, or was that in front of you? Whatever. Just wanted to add another tick after my name. :D

On my drive home from work, I've been giving my "catch up to CDS" strategy some thought and came up with a few items to work on:

1. When posting, type as fast as I can without worrying about spelling or syntax. Let the readers figure out what I'm trying to say. This will increase my posts by about 10%.

2. When reading other people's posts, make sure to point out their misspellings and syntax errors, especially when they mistype 10D as D10 and D60 as 60D. This should earn me another 2% increase in post count but in reality, I think I'll only manage 0.5% here due to some other persons who is quicker at draw regarding this.

3. For the most bang for the bucks, I'm going to hit the Share forum every chance I get and post a comment for every new posting with either a "Cool!" or "Nice shot!". I may throw in an occassional "Wow!" and "Greate jobs!" for variety. That should rake in a whopping 50% increase in post counts right of the bat considering how many postings there are daily in the Share forum.

4. I'l still working on this but just so you know, these action items have been copy righted so you can't steal it from me.

Oh, yes, #4, keep it short and simple and if necessary, start another post if I can't keep it under 15 words or less. I'll start on this one the next posting after this one. :D

I'll start by saying that Pekka is the greatest beer.

I hope someday I can buy him a sister.

But my L collection needs a photographer.

I just came back from Arizona by the way, and I have no idea how you survive that kind of heat. At least we have the humidity

What the heck were the settlers thinking - hey those cactuses (cacti?) are nice, why don't we make a town...

This forum is so cool :D
Other forums that I visit would have locked a topic like this ending with this kinda smiley... http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/contrib/tweetz/spam4.gif

Most threads that are locked on this forum somehow involve me.

You didn't really want that 1DmkII anyway. Just hawk it (and I'm not talking birds here :? ) and you should have enough for a partial payment. I'll give you $500 and a box of KD for your 1DmkII.

Not only will this go into the records as the Most Useless Thread Ever, it's soon to get The Longest Thread Ever.

Yes, but that thread officially Saved The World, so it only gets the Longest record. This thread is also completely useless.

Yet I keep posting to it....

It has, however, helped me to get to 7th place, beating even PacAce.

Unfortunately, that thread had the benefit of a couple guys who really like to write loooooooooooooong posts. Unless we get John_T and Tom_W involved, this thread is likely to go nowhere. (Although Penguin is certainly doing his part.)

Thats nothing, a thread on the home of phpBB has 200 pages, almost 4.000 replies and more than 160.000 views ! So we have alot of work ahead of us

200 pages? And we got 5. lets see...
200 (of their pages) - 5 ( of our pages ) = 195 (pages left ) We got some serious ( or not so serious ) key punching to do

"Nope nothing to see here.."

It became the thread about nothing.. and went on for some 50 odd pages...
