Not sure if this belongs here. Shot strobist style. I can't get a live person to get up at sunrise for a "stupid picture."

Sometimes one must do what one must in order to find his balance in light!:)

Wish I would have had Georges' BG

Gail--Thank You

Robert--Would a swimsuit model have changed the quality of this photo? Thanks for your encouragement. I'll be listing my gear on ebay this afternoon. :-)

I have no idea what I'm asking either - Hi!

I guess it's just so surprising to see something so off-beat on this forum.

I guess ean36 seriously wants a critique.

In that case -
The background leaves me cold (looks contrived), and I would like to see better lighting to improve the illusion of depth - the subject looks too two-dimensional. How do you artificially create the illusion of depth. Can it be done in this situation? I'm thinking that it needs a separate foreground, but that isn't standard for portraits.

ean36, I think it's a great shot. The lighting doesn't quite work between the foreground & background. The background is backlit but the foreground looks more frontlit, maybe a little too much light on the scarecrows face - just makes it feel a little odd. Overall the shot seems to work on a comical/cartoonish level.

Shooting scarecrows must be in...I got this guy last month

If it is a question of not being able to get folks to sit for you in the wee hours.get something that is two dimensional.that way you get to play with shadows and the lighting will change up drastically. Even a doll has features:confused:

Dear Flo,
I just noticed you are at Nanaimo. Correct me if I'm wrong. But around 40 years ago, I used to visit a torpedo range near you called Nanoose. I used to take the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria, and then we would rent a car to go to Nanaimo for lodgings and other creature comforts. We were running the Mk 45 torpedo and the Mk 27 targets there.
Sorry for the Off Topic comments:)

Bob,

I've had this suspicion for a while that you were retired from what is now know as Lockheed Martin Dahlgren. I recently retired from Lockheed Martin MFC-Dallas.
