May not be the same problemn as your having. I'd go to the scan for new updates page and it wouldn't do the scan. I disabled Norton and Zone Alarm, still wouldn't update. I finally had to reformat the hard drive, installed a Router and have had no trouble since!

No, not the same. I am trying to get the service pack 2. Microsoft says that the only way you can get it right now is to turn on auto update and set the time for when you want auto update to run. It isn't available any other way as of yet. It has only been out 3 days.
The problem I am having is that auto update isn't running when I set it to install the service pack.
I am having an inconsistent connection with my wireless notebook. The service pack is supposed to solve this. I am not able to get the update on either my PC or notebook.
I'm on with Microsoft tech on hold right now as I type this.

I have it. I was instructed to download Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers. It has a few more options than the one you are supposed to get but it is the same thing. 266 megs. The regular one is apparently available for direct download on Wednesday 25th.
Anyone wishing to get this update now can get it here. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

I installed it on my laptop...i could SWEAR windows xp speeds up. The popup blocker is nice. I do not use the advanced firewall, but for those of you not running a firewall application its MUCH better and you will benifit from it greatly.

So far from what I've seen it is an improvement. Blinking8s, when did you get the service pack ?

There have been a number of news articles already about problems with XP SP2 - some programs don't work correctly anymore when you install SP2. See this article by Microsoft: Some programs seem to stop working after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=842242).

Has anyone with SP2 installed had such problems, especially with programs like Photoshop CS?

No problems with Auto Updates on the laptop but the desk top is balking at DLing even with Auto Updates on. Guess I'll wait until the next release or DL the network version.

I had SP2 running for maybe an hour or so. After that, I uninstalled it. I had already heard about stability problems with it but I wanted to try for myself.

Maybe it just didn't work well with my particular setup but there were instances (actually, while browsing these forums) where all of a sudden multiple windows of IE would start rapidly popping up. The only way to stop it would be to close the group.

I find the new firewall annoying. Even if I disable it, it still seems to ask lots of questions everytime I open a new application with some internet connectivity.

I didn't notice anything dramatic in the short time that I tried it. So I'll probably wait a few months and try again. Maybe there'll be some corrections/improvements by then.
