Hi
Can anyone tell me if I will have any problems using a US version of a 1Ds here in Europe. I'm talking mainly about the battery and charger which I assume will be 115v as opposed to 220v. Does it have a dual voltage charger?
Thanks for your help.

From DPReview:
Battery / Power
Battery
Canon NP-E3 1650mAh, 12V Ni-MH rechargeable battery (19.8 Wh)
Battery charger
Canon NC-E2 charger, can charge two batteries simultaneously
Input: 100 - 240 V AC
Every Canon charger I've seen so far had about 100-250 Volts capability. That way, they only produce one kind of charger to use worldwide, saving money.
I haven't seen the 1series charger yet, but I assume they'd follow the same strategy there.
Best regards,
Andy

Thanks for the reply, Andy. The voltage compatability makes sense. I have contacted dealers in the US and asked the same question and they all replied that it is only for 'use' in the US. Is this just to cover them for grey exporting do you think?

Buy a few (2-3) plug adapters, and you are golden.
I bought a MiniDV camera and several other P&S digital cameras from the US, and never had a single problem.

Maybe that, or maybe just plain ignorance.
Call them again.
Don't ask them if you can use it in Europe, ask them if you can use it on 220 V. Claim that you live in a part of the US where you only have 220 V available. They won't know, anyway  .

The charger will do just fine. It is built to allow for the differences in voltage from 110 Vac to 220 Vac.
What you should look at getting is an adapter kit if you are going to be travelling around Europe as not all countries have the same standards for sockets.
Here is a site that has a nice reference section on what voltages and plug styles you will find anywhere around the world.

thanks for the replies. i have all the necessary adaptors for traveeling so as long as the charger is 110-220 it looks like ther's no issue. i should have asked the question a year ago!
cheers.

I have the 1Ds and the charger is 100-240 volt compatible. So you should have no problems. It is actually the same charger they send with the 1D and 1D Mk II.
