I got the new 40D last night and got out this morning. It was very cloudy and cold!! (I need to find some gloves that still allow me to operate the camera)
Since it was cloudy I thought it would be good to try some higer ISO settings. I didn't have any of the in camera ISO noise reductions turned on and I didn't do any post process NR.
This one is at ISO 640 with approx. 50% crop. It has some noise. I think I'll try the in camera noise reduction next. Does anybody have any experience with that?
So far I like the camera.. for as little as I have used it anyway. I really like the menu layout. Once I get some good light I should get some better shots.
I'm sure I'll be posting more soon.
Thanks
Henry

Nice one Henry. I'll probably get one also, when Steve is selling his used or the economy picks back up, whichever comes first.

Very nice Henry. Most of my birding is shot at 400 to 640 using the 40D with excellent results. Congrats on the 40D purchase.

Thank you Steve. You're putting out some mighty fine stuff with what you have.

Thanks Mitch. I feel myself being pulled in your direction of "flipping" my gear often:). I'm going to stop here for a while...maybe :)

Thank you Kevin.
I tend to crop at least 50% due to my lens reach so any ISO improvement is welcomed. Some situations seem noisier than others (exposure, distance between subject and background etc..). I have a lot to figure out in that regard.
Are you using the in camera noise reduction? I'm hesitant on that since the manual states it severely effects continuous shooting.
Very nice Henry...BIG congrats :D
Thank you Reyno. I need some more time with this new camera but I'm encouraged.

No I don't, I feel it's better to PP out noise if necessary.
