How to tell when shutter is going bad?

Hello all,

I have a 10D and was wondering if there was a way to tell if the shutter is getting ready to "die"? I used a friend's and his felt and sounded different when the shutter fired.

Has anyone here needed to get the shutter fixed on their 10D??

I have no idea, but I would hazard a guess that it doesn't happen gradually - most likely it's working one minute and kaput the next.

As long as it's not acting strange or really doesn't work anymore, I wouldn't worry about it.

It depends what kind of breakdown it has.
It could make noise
it could slow down then die
It could die all at once

These are symptoms from other cameras i've seen (not 300D's)
I remember one guy said his D30 shutter died very slowely.By the time it had 60000 cycles on it,the flash sync was out -and presumable all the other shutter speeds were out too.

One pretty sure symptom is when taking flash shots the flash does not sync with shutter, i.e you get dark or partially lit photos.
