Yesterday was officially the worst day of the year for me so far!
Let me fill you in on the back story a little just so you get the full effect so stick with it...
It began in the early hours of wed night/thur morning when my lady friend decided it was time to call it a day between us. Had about an hours sleep, then we got up thur morning and I took her to Gatwick airport as I had agreed to a few weeks back as she is off to visit her brother for 5 days.
Anyhow, I drop her off, we have a sad final goodbye and I make my way back towards London feeling pretty miserable.

I decide I don't want to go home so I call a friend of mine and head over to his. I stay there till about 11pm and decide I should really come home and try to get some sleep.
Arrive home at about 1120 with the idea of getting in bed and just forgetting the day had ever happened when what do I get greeted with...

I'VE BEEN BURGLED!!!
Goodbye D2x, goodbye brand new 70-200, adios Sigma 105, remote release, filtes etc that were in the camera bag, Mac Mini, Pronto Pro remote control!! Goodbye back door lock where they tried to force it but had no luck, goodbye front door which has been damaged beyond repair (one of those doubleglazed 'security' doors with 3 deadbolts in!).
As you can imagine, NOT how I wanted my day to end. Spent the morning on the phone to insurance companies and hopefully everything should be replaced but to be honest the worst bit is knowing people were in my house!
They must have run in and out fast as they only grabbed things that were small and not hidden away. Thankfully they ran straight past my 200-400 which was in its bag upstairs!

Guess that answers the 'do I keep the D2x when I get a D3' question!

Its sunk in a bit now as this was all yesterday, but I thought it worth mentioning if only to say, if anyone stumbles on an eBay auction or anything for a D2x with no box, no battery and the 10 pin terminal cover missing...or an un-boxed 70-200 VR with no rear cap or accessories...chances are small I know but you never know. I'm in the West London area too, so if anyone near those parts gets offered a 'deal' by a bloke in a pub etc...

Spent the morning on the phone to insurance companies and hopefully everything should be replaced Project for a rainy day: Take pics of everything you own because you'll be sure to forget something when it's time to settle up with the insurance co. Put them on two CDs & keep one at another location.

I can't imagine how sick this would make you feel. I just recently upgraded my insurance to fully cover the replacement cost of every piece of equipment I own up to $10,000 with a zero $ deductable. I was happy to discover this only added about $15/month to the cost of my insurance. I'm still highly protective of my equipment when on a shoot, but this has done wonders to lower my stress level.

I don't know about all insurance companies, but make sure you read the policy when you get it. After telling them I wanted my equipment insured for $10,000, the first policy I received stated that my equipment was covered for $10,000 at home and up to $2,500 away from home. I replied to them that my concern was when I was shooting away from home, since that was where I used my camera 99% of the time, and I wanted to be certain that it was covered for theft.

I will keep my eyes open I am on e bay a lot. Check your local pawn shops as well, and the police always say well we will do out best butcrimes like this I fear are put at the bottom of the pole. Good luck, makes me think where I live wenever lock our house, where I live I hve two friends in their 80's and they have used rock salt loaded in ther guns before. I'm not jokin, they are the comunity crime pratrol. If it is on 2 or 4 legs they shoot.

Sorry to hear about that. Have you recorded the serial numbers of all your equipment prior to the theft? If not, for the future a list of your equipment, serial numbers, and possibly pics may aid in their recovery from pawn shops, etc.

Thieves SUCK I hate them with a passion. I hope they catch them and then let someone take pictures of them getting their sentence.

Thanks all, I still have all my boxes/serial numbers etc

It makes me sick to think some people can't go out and earn money themselves to buy things!

I would love for them to be caught but I expect it won't ever happen :(
By the way, your avatar picture looks VERY familiar to me...don't anyone on here know your avatar was taken with a Nikon ;)

Very good advice
