I wanted to contrast the water and the rock, in isolation from their context. Does it 'work' for you?

I like the idea, but would rather see the water as a soft blur or frozen in place. I'm not an expert, just throwing my opinion out. I think with a little tweek it could work.

Daytripper,
Very nice photo of the waterfall. Thanks for sharing it.
I can't identify what it is about the blur effect that doesn't seem quite right. I would like to see shutter speed "bracketing" to visually compare the results.
I'm guessing less blur would look better to me, but that's just a matter of personal preferance.

I would like to have seen a little more of the top of the waterfall, kind of looks like the water is coming from nowhere, but it does look like it would be hard to get all of the waterfall into one shot.
What you have achieved is to make people look at the bottom of the shot which looks very clear (focus wise) and to me doesn't go well with the out of focus water falling down the rock face.

it seems that the conclusion of these comments is that the shot would work if a slighter longer shutter speed was used, but I guess its too late for that :P
I think its a good attempt, but I do also think that it would benefit from either a faster or slower shutter speed.
nice photo

Hey thanks for all the comments :D
On reflection I'd have to agree that a different shutter speed would help the image - unfortunately I didn't 'bracket' the shutter speeds - there is a lesson there...
I had been shoting some wider shots of the falls and before packing up took a couple of this water column 'on spec' to see how it turned out - next time I'll try some longer exposures as well.
Thanks again,
Pete

Hi, I could bve wrong but is this falls at Childs Park in Dingmans, Pa. ?
If so, I have a few shots of this falls with a slow shutter speed.

Nope :D This was taken at the Mitchell Falls in the Kimberley in the far North West of Western Australia....

Do you know what slapping a copyright notation and symbol on a document/image doesn't make it copyrighted? You need to file everything you want to copyright with the Feds.

Daytripper, works for me. My opinion is that the silky water effect works with gentle scenes but this shot has good "impact" value, you can see the energy. Good to see it came from the Kimberley, I'm heading up there next year for a 4WD trip.
