Hi Folks,
Just wondering what the combination of the 135 f2 and a 1Ds is like. I'm thinking about giving it a try but curious about other peoples experience with this combination. I expect it to be sharp in the middle of the frame but whats it like at the edges, the 1Ds can be very unforgiving. I've had a look at the mtf's on photodo and on canons EF page but am curious about its real world performance. All comments appreciated.
Best Regards

This is, in my opinion, the best lens canon currently makes. It isnt large, it is extreamly fast, and it is SHARP!!!!!
In fact i've heard stories of cut fingers, thats how sharp it is...it's not safe.

Er.. Timmy.. I think the question was put rather plainly and directly towards people who actually own the equipment in question.
Let's not all start going DPReview here and claim to have used everything on the planet.
Bear.. check out Drisley's review in the review sticky.

I do own it, i swear, i do di do!
Everynight between the hours of 11pm to 8am i own it.
I'm only speaking of the optics here, and the optics are based on photos, and i have seen a ton of photos from this photo, i dont think i've ever been let down.
I have been so impressed in fact that i feel comfy telling people to buy it. I have never done this with a lens i didnt already own.
PS*
When the mods of the forum know your equipment list thats a sign you spend too much time there.

Hi Folks,
Timmy could you please confirm that the images were taken with a 1Ds and how sharp the corners were, also could you please download one of the images from your brain and post it with 100% crops of center and edge so that we can all see them :D
CDS, thanks for the suggestion I have seen Drisleys post and have asked what the camera is. Just curious if it is full frame or 1.3 or 1.6.
Thanks for taking the time to reply, anyone else got this pair and fancy sharing your comments.
Best Regards

Hi Folks,
Just wondering what the combination of the 135 f2 and a 1Ds is like.
Don't have the 1Ds, but I plan to give the lens a whirl on the 1D MkII today in a portrait session, if I can get back far enough, and tomorrow on some architectural work. For the portrait session, I will be using the 85 f1/8 as my primary lens and taking a few shots with the 135 for comparison. We've got crystal clear weather with fluffy, snow white clouds today :D - I hope it holds up for tomorrow's shoot. I should be able to post a few images before the weekend.

lol..
I realized later that my post may have sounded a lot more "moddish" than I intended.. I'm gald to see you took it with humor...
I too drool over this lens and share your enthusiasm! ..and there is certianly know harm in expressing that enthusiam here in this thread.. so my apologese for sounding the heavy :?
I guess what I was looking for was something along the lines of adding the disclaimer.. "I don't actually have this lens .. BUT.."
Haha :P .. anyway.. I think as one of our "rising stars" you can't fool anyone.. we all know full well if you'd gotten your hands on that lens that there would be a post here describing the every juicy detail!!!!!!

Actually, it's a 300D.
However, the 135F2L is probably the sharpest lens Canon has ever made.
This tester (http://www.wlcastleman.com/equip/reviews/85_100_135/index.htm) said that the 135F2L was super sharp for film, much better than the 85F1.8 (which is already a sharp prime).
I can't find the exact page where he said that though.
Also, this review (http://members.tripod.com/~Photography_2/ef135vs70200.htm)compared the 135F2L to the 70-200F2.8L on an EOS film camera.
His conclusion was:
At f/2, the 135L beat the 70-200L at f/2.8 in both corner and centre sharpness and resolution. Contrast with the 135L looked very slightly better than the L zoom. Needless to say, the 135L stopped down to f/2.8 was the clear winner over the L zoom. The 135's centre to edge sharpness was pretty impressive. It also showed marginally higher contrast than the L zoom.
That's pretty impressive! I think that if the 135F2L 's performance doesnt make you happy, I doubt any lens on earth would.

Hi folks,
so am I right in thinking that nobody here has this combination (and I mean in the real world not dreamy dreamy wish world, ok timmy). I expect it to be good just want to get some feedback from someone who has tried it with the very demanding 1Ds.
Thanks in advance

Bear,
I might recomend "the other" forum.. (the other good one that is  )
Fredmiranda.com
I am sure you will find a number of Canon users with that combination there, and a freindly and helpfull atmosphere as well.
It seems we have a VERY small number of 1Ds owners that frequent here. In fact I can think of only one from memory.
Good luck

Thanks to all who answered and the suggestions you gave (even those with phantom ownership). Will have a look at FM, LL and RGB and see if one of them can help
Best regards

Well I must be one of the minorities since I do own a 1Ds (even when awake  ). It is just that I don't own that lens (yet :) )
But if someone were to send me the lens I would be more than happy to provide my feedback

Thanks Steven,
I just decided to bite the bullet and give it a go. Picked upp the 135 yesterday and hope to try it out if it ever stops raining.
All the best

Bear - Post a few pics if possible, especially the portrait session. I am also interested in this lens, as well as the 85 1.8.

Although I use the 20D, the 85F1.8 was the sharpest lens I've ever used... that is until I got the 135F2L, which is supposed to be the sharpest lens you can buy, corner to corner, and wide open. Apparently it's superior optics are most noticable on full frame digital.
