Hi
I just got a New (used) Canon D30 today morning. When I turn on the Camera, everything works fine except that the LCD Wont turn on when I am taking a picture. When I press the menu or the Preview button the LCD turns ON but not at the time of taking a PIC. Is it supposed to be like that. Is there any button which turns on or off the LCD.

Right now I can use the Viewfinder to take the pic, but sooner or later I will need the LCD. :)

Please let me know. Its getting scary.

Thanks
Leo.

The simple answer: you can't. There's a mirror in the way. A digital SLR doesn't work like a P&S camera. You can't use the LCD screen to compose the shot.

You'll get use to it, and then grow to love it ;-).

It's best not to use the LCD for taking photos as it results in a delay when you click the shutter release.

Yeah...what the others said. Generally, the shutter stays open and the sensor is exposed all the time in point and shoot cameras...this is why you can see what the camera sees through the LCD screen. On SLR cameras, the shutter is only open for a small period of time.

Last nite even my friend asked me how he could use the LCD screen. I told him that's not how it works, you look through the viewfinder instead, and he told me the camera was a piece of crap (also a D30). Then he asked "what kind of zoom does this thing have," and I told him it's got a prime lens on it so there is no zoom. What a load of [insert explitive] he said. What can ya do......

But my biggest pet peeve is when people try moving the focus ring when the lens is set to AF.... :x

Its like sitting in an F16 and then asking "Honey!, how do I start up the music"
