Question about AF

I had a quick question about the AF on the Canon cameras. (It may apply to digital photography in general). I apologize in advance if this seems a bit naive.

If you're panning a fast moving object and the AF gets focused on that object, will it stay focused on that object through the duration of the pan?

It depends on the specific camera involved.

Canon SLRs,.. mostly have all of them have some form of focus tracking.
The priceir the camera.. the better the AF tracking. (roughly)
