This morning, inspired by the feeding station thread here, I went out and did a little re-arranging of my feeders and added a log or two for perches. Then, with my new tripod I set up to take some shots of the "big birds" I expected to show up at the lower feeders.
Behind me, maybe 6-8 feet away, hung my hummingbird feeder (under a trumpet vine on our patio).
As I was fiddling to set the tripod with camera, I heard a "buzz" and thought, "wow that's a pretty big bug" - and turned around to see this hummingbird, who flew right over me, at my feeder!:

Unfortunately, he came & went so quickly, I had exposure set up for the bird feeders below, so of course, I ended up with a less-than-ideal 1/30 sec. shutter speed for the hummingbird, and he immediately flew off, before I could change settings. But this guy wasn't more than 7 feet from me, so ANYTHING that was usable, I was going to be happy with for a first shot.
Then, I set up on the patio to await his return, and got these (from a little farther away, but with better settings, though backlight was a problem):
