I've heard that canon offers excellent discounts to government employees, the department of education in particular. Has anyone heard of this? I have a friend that in the DOE and he is willing do it for me but I needs to know the steps taken. I don't want to get him or myself into trouble or be embarrassed.

I don't know about the gov't discount, although I would have loved that, but the employee store has some deals once in awhile, like the 70-200 F2.8 IS for $900 (refurb from factory). Start looking for a friendly employee...... Sorry.....I don't work for Canon.

Canon may or may not offer discounts to government employees. And, it probably depends on what part of the government they work in. I know that Dell, for example, has deals with many school systems and various governments where employees of those entities can get a modest discount. Canon might do the same.

I think that your friend will have to find out through the DOE, since Canon isn't likely to publicize any such deals.
