rebel xt slow transfer speed to computer

I have a canon rebel xt camera. In it's best setting or even smaller the pictures take a good while to upload to the computer. My Canon sd1000 is almost twice as fast. I did a compare the speeds and the rebel did 20 m.b. in 7.4 seconds. The sd1000 did it 1 second faster and had almost 30 m.b. of transfer data. Both support usb 2.0 and I have loaded both drivers. I usually try by connecting the camera to the the usb slot and was told to use a card reader. It is as slow of slower when using the slots on the front of the computer.
The rebel is using a lexar platinum 40x speed (not sure if that matters in speed uploading) and the sd1000 uses a scandisk card. Please advice as I am trying to eliminate what is causing the slow speed transfer. Thanks

What is slow? For me 200 raw files at 4.1mb ( 1D ) big takes 19 mins, 200 jpeg at 2.7mb takes 8 mins to me speed depends on file size. Also you say you have loaded drivers for usb 2 but is your usb 1 or 2 if it's 1 then usb2 driver is not helping..

Thanks for the reply. Yes the computer is new so it's 2.0. I guess my question is why the canon sd1000 is way faster than the rebel xt,(even with more pictures to upload) both using the camera to the usb port. The card reader doesn't speed it up any like the camera store had suggested.

Sounds like your USB might not be operating at optimal speeds, have you timed a download to figure out how fast its going?

For one, the card speed is slow. Secondly, why are you using the camera to upload? Get a decent card reader and use that.

I tried a card reader and it was slower. It looks as if the card speed would be the problem. Anyone else.

there is pretty much no way that the card reader could be slower than the camera. It is either a problem with the card or with the computer. I'd suggest trying another card and then if that doesn't work, figure out what is wrong with your USB interface.
