When the lcd is positioned to face forward (eg to take my own picture) the image is upside down . Used to be OK . Any suggestions on how to fix ?
Thanks
Just discovered the problem is only when camera is in landscape mode; no problem if oriented to portrait mode. Also holdong the camera upside down in landscape mode doesn't solve the problem !

Mine has the same problem lately, and the worst thing is the lcd goes off when it is pressed to its position facing outside.
Any body know why ?

Sounds like the sensors/micro-switches that trigger at certain points of rotation of the LCD assembly are failing. Could be the electrical contacts/optical sensors are starting to get flakey, or the physical mechanism that pushes/rotates the switch/sensor is broken or worn. Probably reparable, if your confident in disassembly, soldering, etc.
I've replaced the micro-switches that register button clicks on a mouse (back when I had more time and less money), but I don't know that I'd attempt this particular repair. Finer parts, and more to lose. Of course, I'm sure it's highly annoying, so maybe I'd break down after a while and try it :)
Might be worth getting a repair estimate from Canon?

Jessops (UK) charge £45 (GBP) to make estimate which is deductible if estimate is accepted. Sales assistant thought net cost could be over £100($180 US). I think I'll live with it !

For such an expensive charges, did you ask what the faults are?
What is the cause of such faults?

Jessops would send it to Canon. Very few retail camera shops would be able to give a precise diagnosis. A second repair shop offers to do the job for £80 (GBP) and this would involve complete replacement of the LCD component. Gives 6 month guarantee. This second shop sounded as if they had seen the fault before and that LCD replacement was the answer.

it's very easy to fix!!
the lcd does not have to be replaced!!!
you can fix it yourself
remove the 2 screws from the hinge unit en gently remove the hinge cover.
underneath the cover you'll find a bunch of wires and a switch, that switch is the problem, there's probably a loose wire because of turning the lcd a lot. strip the wire a bit and solder it bach to the switch on the side it came loose and it'll work fine again
i'll try to post a picture later on :P
so don't let them do those expensive repairs 8)

Soldering is not my strong point !
I'll try and summon up the courage to have a look!
Many thanks for your suggestion !

I respect you, EoSD30fReAk . For being able to solder those cable to the hinge switch by your self.
I managed to remove the hinge cover, but when I saw the sizes of those cable, I lost my confidence and decided to live with it for the time being.
Any way, just for knowledge sake, can you tell us how many cable should be connected to the hinge switch?
For my camera, there is still one cable sticking to the switch ( as seen in the picture - the one with the white end ), there is one loose cable, should it be connected to the same location? That area looks like covered with some kind of gel.
Just in case I ( or some one reading this ) want to carry out the repair work one day , this info will be very helpful.
Thanks again.

i've done it several times!
there are 2 wires that have to be connected to the switch one on each side
the gel stuff you talk about is the glue that holds the wire in it's place normaly
the loose wire you talk about is the one that needs to be put back on the switch.
let me know again if you have more questions
