I use to use a cheapo best buy tripod and it recently broke on me. I want a new tripod but I have no idea what to get. I don't have too much money to spend because I don't have a job. I shoot a lot of motorsport's and car stills. I use a 40d with a 70-200mm if that helps. Can anyone help me out?

Here's the replacement model for mine:

This is a ball head - there're also pan heads. I like the RC heads because you leave the plate on the camera or lens and move between heads. I have three - pan, BH and swivel-tilt. All use the 486RC plates.

We use the Bogen/Manfrotto 190XB and it works great. It'll steadily hold a big 1D with a 70-200 L or the 28-300 L lens.

It's pretty light and this link is only $124!!

Those are just the legs - still needs a head, and I recommend the RC route if OP goes with BM.

Yeah, those are just the legs, but at under $150 bucks, you can buy a small ball head for around $50 and still be under the $200 mark he said he has to spend.

Now what tripod that has one of those cheesy heads attached is going to hold a 70-200 still. I'm thinking that's why his first one broke

Funny, that's precisely where I sent the OP. :)

Eeekkk... Tripod and head under 200? That low... Couldnt up it to at least 260 or so? Check out the bogen tripod kits at B&H's website and order them low to high.
