I created my own "lightbox" of sorts, and I'm thinking they could be a real money-maker. My father in law spent about $1k on his lighting crap for ebay, and my shots come out better.

Here's what I get:

Not the greatest shot or anything, but it helps illustrate my point.

Here's my setup:

I'm thinking that I should charge about $49.99 for the basic kit, and $99.99 for the 'advanced' kit which includes the plastic furniture.

LMAO!!!!!!!

Thats fantastic...does the furniture (AKA, anchors) need to be those specific colors for proper white balance to be achieved.

Gary Fong would never let it go that cheap.

Price it at $200 and include a "before" shot that's a stop overexposed with the wrong white balance.

And to think, I was going to use copy paper for jewelry.

I've had plenty of luck using 2 sheets of 8.5x11 matte photo paper. Way back I built a box out of Fome-cor but I needed an insane amount of light shining in it, so I tried the flash. It worked great. I think it's pretty cool that I can get these types of images with $1 worth of extras.

If the paper curves back over the top a bit, it helps knock down the last of the shadows. Here's another example:

My white could be a lot brighter, but it's not a bad place to start. Keeps PP to a minimum.

Just finished doing that. Converting the pics now and will have them up tomorrow night hopefully. Here. I haven't given her the ring yet.

Where is the light source positioned or is it just a flash

The first pictures were with the 430EX, and the last picture was with just the on-board flash.

Ya know what would make it sell like hot cakes is if you made it an animated gif switching from the product shot and studio setup. :)

You could call it 'A Better Lightbox Card'

:)

And after 3 months of sales you could come out with a new and improved system that uses two pieces of the same plastic furniture but different colors (for white balance). This would cost more but come with an all new instructional video....

Let's see here... 350 sheets per case... $50/sheet ($49 of that profit)... Ya... I think this would be cool.

Can you imagine how pissed off you would be if you spent $50 for a new lightbox setup, and got a 23x35 sheet of paper?

You could sell the idea to Fisher Price. It could be called "My First LightBox".

I dont't think you have appreciated how much thought has gone into the original coloured furniture its obviously been finely calculated for very best white balance

Great idea! There is one problem which is easily fixable though. The paper appears grey in a lot of the shots - Something that can be fixed with a bit of levels and brightness adjustment, but without the adjustment it doesn't look quite right.

No when people see your setup no one will buy - they will just make their own.
