So, I'm sure someone must have done this and I'm looking for help since I know nothing about painting. Who has painted their rebel black? I want to do this but I need all the instruction I can get. I just can't take this anymore, make the silver go away!

If you can read Japanese, and if you time for this to download, look here (http://www.slrclub.com/bbs/view.php?id=canon_d30_forum&page=1&sn1=&sid1=&divp age=14&sn=off&sid=off&ss=on&sc=off&select_arrange= headnum&desc=asc&no=72342)

It looks like Korean rather than Japanese. Anyway, there's no difference...

Do you have a site showing how to paint a white lens to black?

Check this guy (http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1031&message=9528902). He painted his yellow. But you can jsut substitute "black" where you see "yellow".

I just don't like it. lol.
Looks like a toy but that doesn't bother me that much. I just love black.

Well, you could try dipping it.

If I were you, I'd either wait for a black one, upgrade to a 10D/20D, or wear dark glasses when you use the camera. Unless you are going to disassemble it and paint the individual components, you are like to have problems. There is really no good way to mask every little bit of the camera without serious risk of getting paint somewhere where it can do some damage.

The best advice I could ever give you on this subject is to suck it up...use the silver camera for now. You're just going to really screw it up if you try to paint it.

Hm, maybe some very slowly painted on black nail polish..
Oh and I'm stuck with this cam.. Kinda bought it on credit.. at like $850 total.. $20 monthly min payments.. where $17 of that goes towards interest a month.. I see no upgrading haha

Wow, I hope you're paying more than your min payment... and yeah that site is korean. I'd have to go along with a few others on this and say don't try to paint it... especially when you're still owing money for it. I doubt Canon would be very willing to cover it under warrantee should you ever need it.

I'd want to do that, but it's way too much time... and I've never painted with a sprayer... :?

If I work for 6 days at my job, I can get a good chunk of an L lens... To hell with cosmetics.

Granted, it looks very stylish though

Neat.. but I wish there was a way to do it without opening the camera. ><

why not simply put tape on the parts you want to leave (LCD, etc...) then use a black spray bomb and paint it black...

Another thought : a whole new industry : case-modding for cameras... different colors, painted flames, some neon-lighting, etc... now that would be weird... or am I too late? does this already exist?

DocFrankenstein

I know... If there was a lab that would do this mod for under... 100 bucks I'd probably go for it. It looks really nice. :?

Spray bomb would probably work too... maybe not on the buttons though. :?

I hope this is a joke because I can't believe someone is seriously thinking of painting the camera. I'd be willing to bet that something gets screwed up. Seems like a giant risk to me... but that's just my opinion.

regardless of how well you prep it also, it will scratch and the silver will show... Plastic is one of those materials that just doesn't hold paint all that well. You could add a flex additive to it to help it last. I'm sure if you can decipher that web site he mentions a flex additive...

Considering it's been done multiple times which you would have noticed if you read the thread before posting when it's painted correctly it's just fine thank you.

I think that painting the camera assembled is a big no-no. However if you disassemble it and only paint the shell it is less harmlful as long as you don't mash up the inards too much. Still I don't think I would try it.

The task is like this
1 obscene enterprise looking
The enterprise for 2 disjointing tasks while looking from the obsceneenterprise the president in the minute when it knows
That there is a disjointing guru, it says and from khay from ricefield where it was end Ul Pis it listens to in the former times whenit requests
The feeling was good considerably

 Somehow, I think the automatic translation from Korean didn't really work out too well.....

... has too many syllables for a haiku

I really like that yellow DRebel.
For the work he most likely put inside this, he might have got a 10D easily...

Best regards,
Andy

Yes, it's very ugly. Painting something should always make it look nicer, not worse. ><
