I was using Elements 5.0's organizer but have had some issues with the catalogs breaking.

I've switched to organizing using folder hierarchy which is independent of any tool. That way I can use any SW to access my pics and things are consistent. It's not great though. There must be a better way.

How do you volume shooters keep your pictures organized?

By date. I use ACDSee Pro because it loads my photographs instantly.

I can also tag my favorites with 1 key, then sort them to the top.

There are also batch commands to resize & watermark with one step.

I really prefer to organize them by folder using regular Windows Explorer. I'm not really convinced that adding a layer of database in the form of an organizer is helping the situation. Just one more layer of data that the computer must sort through.

Same as Tom W, organized in Explorer folder hierarchy using [YEAR][DATE][SUBJECT (if necessary)]. I keep all my photos on a separate drive from the drive that the OS is on, and back up to an external USB hard drive AND to CD/RW or DVD/RW on a regular basis.

I use iView Media Pro (http://www.iview-multimedia.com/)

Also, this (http://www.thedambook.com/) might be a good read. (chapter one is a free download)

Windows Explorer, folders by year then date. Like the attached shot. In each years folders are subfolders by date. Nothing is on the drive except pictures. After that they are backed up to CD, then DVD.
