Doesn't have any significant dfference between A80 just except:
1. larger lcd screen
2. additional shooting function - SCN
3. 5 mega pixel

The new canon powerhshot A95 is out now! Check it out!

These seem like nice upgrades.

What, don't you know that megapixels are everything? That extra megapixel is all it should take to get you to upgrade.

More megapixels = more CF space needed for every image

What's the point of getting more megapixel since A80 is sufficient to support the need of printing to 8R size?...Do you always do large format printing?

Another thing is the CCD used are same with A80..just the factor different.
That's means this might bring more noise to the image.

Just my 2 cents

cheewooi is right with the CCD... higher MP in A95 means higher noise with the same CCD size as A80... with is one my concern...

The larger LCD (n sharper too) is a good upgrade!... I tried it myself last night and I was impressed by it!... I was going to purchase it last time before my consciousness tell me to wait and see... anyway, it's a good upgrade and cost just nice... it's very cheap for a 5.0MP digicam

The sample images do not show any noise...Also the G5 uses the same CCD from the A80 but with a higher MP. G5 too did not have any noise.

So is it really true that a higher MP on the same CCD increases noise?

Having the same size CCD as the 4MP A80 means the A95 interpolates to get the image to 5MP. You can do the same thing with software which will probably give you a better result. Since interpolation guesses what colours to use for the extra pixels it is likely to cause some noise.

Same size isn't the same as same pixels. The physical dimensions are the same, but they've boosted the number of receptorsto get to 5 MP. And small receptors are more prone to noise than larger ones. Canon has been working on their noise-reducing algorithms, and the preliminary reports on the 20D (which has the same size sensor as the 10D, but at 8.2 MP rather than 6.3) suggests that they have improved them.

Your sensor, regardless of the size (unless you're using the Foveon sensor), interpolates colours anyway. Each receptor has a different colour filter over it, so only records red, green, or blue values. In post-processing, the values of the adjoining receptors are used to get a RGB value for a given pixel. But interpolating values for a pixel doesn't cause noise - it may cause banding in the image, and it won't give any added detail, but noise comes from over-amplifying the signal received by any given receptor.

Thanks Jon,
handy details to know. Sorry for the misinformation.

btw, ScottK's comment was probably supposed to be sarcastic. There's a winky smiley there guys.
