Just got back from a fishing trip to Valdez. Caught allot of fish and took a bunch of pictures. I kind of like this one. Any comments on how it can be improved are welcome.
Thanks
Steve

I like the picture, but (!) the mountains in the background look 'unreal' different shades of grey - not your fault I know but my impression is that the boat is superimposed on to the shot. I know it isn't it just looks too perfect a background.
Hope that makes sense ! :D

Thanks for the comments Lee. The only thing I did to this picture was convert it too B&W. I thought the mountains did come out well but as far as them being too perfect...well...I appreciate the kind words. :D

The mountains don't bother me in the least. I think its a brilliant photo.

I also think it is fantastic, but as far as a critique goes, it would be better if the peoples heads did not intersect with the shoreline in the background.
Other than that it is a faultles, stunning picture IMO

Thanks for pointing that out Molydood. That never even crossed my mind when taking the shot but I agree with you.

I sort of don't like points of interest being too much to the center.. so I took the liberty of doing this 8) :

Edit: I'm still learning to create compositions that actually make sense, following the lines and golden means, thirds and the rest.

Its a great image.
Why not color ? I would have liked to see a bit more definition in the right hand distant mountains. The contrast is a bit low.
Here is my fast take. (Got to go to hear Bush!) Oh.. I burned the edges a la the B & W print pros .. a bit hard with few pixels. I'd need a bigger file to get the contrast right.

I don't see any obvious way to improvr on this in PP.. I think the original image looks best. (wonderfull moody shot)
I do agree with "dood" .. if I were taking the shot again.. getting the boat so it is surrounded by water.. even at the top. would have helped.
I would also try to recompose with the boat off center as suggested by Karusel.. but I'm not sure cropping the image you have is preferencial.
Great work,. must have been a fantastic trip.
