what's the pros / cons of camera rotation vs. flash rotation,

why did people choose one over the other - presuming tripod use is not a priority?

my intended use would be weddings and portable event and group/portrait photography [on location, out on the street, woods, etc.]

p.s. for those with the flash rotation bracket - is there some work around for when you do want to shoot with the bracket on a tripod [my tripod will already let me rotate the whole camera body vertically].

Flash rotator is lighter in weight and smaller in bulk, and it comes in a foldable version.

Tripod use...just flip the ballhead on its side and swing the flash up. Or just flip the flash over on its side, then flip the ballhead on its side with both body and flash ending up in the right orientation. Nuttin hard about doing either at all; maybe not as simple as just twisting the camera over, but certainly not hard to do!

Thanks wilt.

I want to lean towards minimal weight and portability unless there is a significant advantage for camera rotating in shooting wedding, event or on location/out on the street portraits.

I got the folding flash rotating bracket and IMO, the best bracket in its price range. My friend lent me his Strobo and after my first use, I quickly realized what I want and need, a compact, lightweight bracket that can fit in my backpack without taking off the bracket from the camera.

I had the flash rotator and sent it back. I do a lot of tripod work and moving the ballhead to the side seemed to defeat the purpose of being able to rotate in the first place. I have the Di400 which accommodates a gripped camera or a 1 series and I could not be happier. I just rotate the camera and it stays in position on the tripod. I had several other flash brackets before settling for a Newton and none did what I wanted it to do. Fewer trade-offs with the Newton.
