Ok, I got my Tokina yesterday. I have decided to buy it after long research and all reviews were brilliant. But even before I attached it to my camera I was dissapointed already!!! The zoom ring is almost impossible to turn! I mean you can't do it with just a simple turn with two fingers. You really need the whole hand and it's extremely hard to turn. So my question is: I just got a defected lens or ALL Tokinas 28-70 the same way?? I am ready to sacrifice the convenience in exchange to nice pic, so if you guys tell me all Tokinas 28-70 have the same problem I keep it. If not - I need to return it ASAp and ask for a replacement.
So Tokina owners or who tried it - what do you say?

I don't have the Tokina (I have the Tamron and love it), but perhaps it has a switch/lock to prevent zoom creep? Perhaps it's engaged and you're forcing the zoom in spite of the locking feature?
Just a stab in the dark ...
If it's not something simple like that, I'd return it - whether it was normal for that lens or not.

Even though I am a woman I never drove with brakes on and never tried to turn the zoom ring with lock on.
LOL.
P.S. That was a same question my husband asked me on the phone when I called him to complain!!!!!
No, there is no switch/lock...

No insult intended ... just the first thought that came to mind.
As I stated before, I'd return it ... most likely yours is defective. Even if it's not, I wouldn't want a lens with the problem you describe.
Sorry I couldn't be of greater assistance ...

That Tokina has a clutch-mechanism for the focus ring; it sounded strange to use and is one reason I avoided that lens. Perhaps the clutch is interfering with the zoom ring?
I'd take it back and exchange it for the Tamron 28-75. :)

Ok, the lens was with the defect. I sent it back and waiting for a new one. But about Tamron. Does this lens have f 4.0? I couldn't find Tamron zoom with f 2.8..
