There have been several posts here and on other sites by people claiming to have focusing accuracy problems with the Mark II and 24-70/2.8L in combination.

Has anyone using that combination not had problems?

Also, does anyone find that this combination creates any unease with subjects? One of the nice things about the diminitive Leica rangefinders is that non-photographers think they're toys, and I've heard that this leaves them a bit more relaxed than they are in front of larger, more "serious" looking cameras. If that's really so, the Mark II/24-70 might have the opposite effect.

I'd like to hear from owners who are using this specific combination and can share their overall experiences using it. Thanks.

Mike,

I know you are looking for the combination of MK II and 24-70, but I am responding because I am one who had problems with the 24-70 on my 10D.

I sent the lens in, they gave the lens an "overhaul," and sent it back within 8 days. Even though I've only used the lens a few times, it seems much better. I guess it was miscalibrated or something, and now it seems to be fixed.

I wouldn't discourage anyone from getting the 24-70. It is the lens that stays on my camera almost all of the time.

The 24-70 is the main lens on my MkII. No focusing problems at all.

My 24-70 stays on my Mark II 90% of the time. No problems with focus or sharpness. Right now it is the best lens in my bag.

I'll echo some of the sentiments here. My 24-70 is my standard lens at least 75% of the time. No problems with focussing.

I have a 10D and the 1D MkII. I sold my Canon 28-70 f2.8 L on eBay a year ago and purchased the 24-70 f2.8L.

Other than a problem with the 24-70 lens barrel end (where the lens hood attaches) coming loose and having to be sent back to Canon for a warranty repair, this lens has been flawless. Tack sharp on both cameras.

Of course, the focusing on the 1d MkII is much better and faster than the 10D, however, both have produced remarkable images. I still use both cameras.

Mine is perfect.

That is my default combination. I carry my Mk II with that lens on it, and I have never experienced any focusing difficulties whatsoever.

No problems here.

I'm planning to buy the lens soon. The local MS chapter's Tour for Cure is coming up in a few weeks, and I wanted to buy the lens just before the event so that if I didn't like it I could ship it back to B&H in time for a refund. But now I'm becoming less concerned about that and may jump the gun a little. I will need time to check out the lens and make sure that mine works before the big weekend.

Thanks, everyone, for taking the time to respond.

I had to return the first lens that I received from Beach camera because the focusing was horrible. I have been very happy with the replacement that was sent and have had no issues with focus.

No problems with the MKII and 24-70 that are lens specific.
