That's not proof, just conjecture.

Not necessarily. Most software developers do serious talk with hardware manufacturers well before the release of the hardware. True, the actual model name could be changed by Canon marketing, but it pretty much indicates that Canon is obviously working on a replacement for the 5D. Probably will be released in April 2008 ;)

BTW - Canon has not released a 7/70/700 numbered camera in the EOS range recently and I doubt that they will now. It's been 1, 3, 4 and 5 (and of course, the derived numbers) for a good while now. If we go back 20 years, then they used a 6 as well, with the old EOS 620/630/650 and I think the very first EOS units were 700s from memory.

Would the 5d mark II have a digic 2 processor then?

Well it would be at least Digic III more than likely.

...And some people say some people have been testing out the 5D II and say it's very flawed and tend to use the old 5D instead.

Well, just for the sake of arguing... you don't hear about hardly any problems with the 5D. But with the 40D and all the ERRxx, makes you wonder if the 5D replacement won't be buggy too.

The name is really not important; my comments:

1. The 5D is over two years old; not quite ancient but pushing it. Even if it's a better buy than a FF D3, it's age is becoming a psychological barrier - aren't WE waiting for the "next one"?

2. Nikon finally has a FF, but it's pricey ($5,000 for body only at my dealer in Cdn$) and the 5D is currently at $2,300. Canon is screwing them here, and my guess is they'd like to continue it.

3. How many photographers really need the D3's 9 FPS? Five FPS in a 5DII would soon be in my bag.

4. It has been a superb camera for users - marketing success would be updating it just when Nikon thinks they have the ace in the hole.:D
