Does anyone know why there are several redish colored, generally horizontal bars on some of the pictures I take with my 10D. The problem is more noticible when the picture has darker colors rather than lighter one. At first, I thought the problem might be occurring due to the Moire Phenomena or sun flare reflections hitting the lens, but the problem is now occuring under several different conditions (including a gray card). I've had my 10D over a year now and have taken over 10,000 photos, but the problem started happening about a month ago. I first noticed the problem after forgetting to change my shutter from 30 seconds from the prior night to 1/1000th sec the next day, so I'm wondering if having the shutter opened for that long a period during the day might have damaged the sensor. Has anyone ever experienced this problem with their 10D?

Without getting any of the details, we can only guess.
It sounds vaguely like an electronics malfunction near the sensor.

I doubt that overexposing by 5 stops would damage the sensor .... unless you were pointing the camera at the sun :?:

Post an example image that shows the problem.

Otherwise, how would the P&S digicams with their constant open sensors do it?
Silicium should be pretty durable and not degrade when exposed to the sun...
Best regards,

Good to hear that :D . But I'm sure I read somewhere in my D60 literature a warning about pointing the camera directly at the sun for too long. I guess it's a matter of degree. Obviously you have to point the camera at the sun when shooting a sunset, so I guess it's the mid-day sun that's a hazard. What'll harm your eyes might harm the sensor.
