Hi all pixels here from Belfast, this is my first post here , I'm thankful for all the tips here .

I Have been offered a D30 body to buy i have an Olympus 3000z at present , i'm not totaly happy with the quality of the final prints even though this is a highly rated camera , i have read a lot about the D30 and i'm a bit concerned it may be to complicated for me , can this camera take good photos in a novis's hands ? i'm thinking of buying the canon 28-135mm image stabiliser ultrasonic lens . do you think this set up would give good results or should i be thinking more towards the Olympus E20 ?
Regards

D30 will allow you to grow with it. If you are not confident or confused stick it on Program mode and let it do the thinking, as you become more competant you can venture into all the other stuff available. One word of advice if you do go D30 forget canon software and get Breezbrowser. There is so much info on the web along with helpful people a couple of searches and postings will resolve problems as you go along. david

David is right on. My D30 has been in a novis's hand since it came home and takes good pictures in spite of this handicap. Actually, the novis prefers to blame the camera for the really bad ones.:)

The camera is teaching me photography and, most importantly, how to hold steady for a good, crisp image. I used "P" mode for months at first and started experimenting with other modes. My "P" mode shots, the ones where the camera makes most of the decisions, are still the most reliable.

I also have the 28-135 IS lens and find I keep putting this one back on my camera for most shots. It takes very good images in good light and is a real workhorse. It will give you a fantastic focal range with IS to boot.

Now, about that E20. You will love the E20 but will always wish you had purchased the SLR or wondered "what if". Then you will sell or keep the E20 and buy the SLR. I would just skip the "E20 step" and start building your lens collection while taking some great D30 shots. When you get to the SLR level you realize the body may go but the lens will be around for a long time.

I also use 28-135mm on my D60. This lens is one of many reasons why I switched from Nikon to Canon.

However, keep in my that at the wide side (28mm). It becomes about 45mm on D30/D60.

At long last the D30 arrived , got the 28-105 usm mk 2 lense , it's early days to judge but first impressions are very good , love the feel of the camera and everyone likes the image quality (wife and kids) Now i must learn how to use this monster. but until i get the hang of it i'll use the easy modes , first use photo
