is there much of a difference in photo quality here from what i read the rebel is a throttled back version of the 10d just missing a few features due to firmware, which you can get most of them back by using the hack is this true .

It'll take the exact same photos.

That statement needs to be qualified. According to dpreview default settings between the two camera's will not produce the exact same image. Otherwise, they would not have had to set custom parameters for identical image comparison.

So, technologically = yes they can produce the exact same image, but the 300D's Parameter 1 default in-camera processing is not the same as the 10D default processing (or lack thereof).

Thats nice, i use adobe RGB anyways.
If you want to tweak the parameters in jpeg mode then go for it but the bottom line is that they are the same exact sensor, it'll take the same exact photos given the mechanical components of the camera allow for it.

TQ,
bottom line is that there were actually uninformed people at one time exclaiming that the 300D produced better images than the 10D; a few people upgrading to the 10D were even dissappointed by the 'lack' of default processing compared to the 300D. Once they understood the variance in default parameter settings it was a non-issue.
My post was to assert that your blanket statement just needed to be qualified because the fact that both camera's can produce the same image quality it does not mean they will do so right out of camera.
It matters.

Given identical conditions, they will give the same image. 10D has a bit more functions though, which allows you to have more "keepers"

Plus the 10D is a lot more solid and durable (hopefully  )

If I remember right without looking at the camera, Parameter 2 is the exact same as the default settings of the 10D, with all options set to "0"

That's good stuff to know for 300D AND 10D users who would like to venture further into in-camera settings.
Thanks Kinger.

The 10d also has a pc sync slot/terminal. The 10d uses a pentaprism while the 300d does not.
Those are physical feature's, I know the 10d has many more techincal features, but I dont know what can be cured with the firmware hack, apperently quite a bit.
Cheers.

I suspect the fact they have not got it right so far means there are some hardware restrictions there.

i don't think the exposure is as accurate with the d300. I find the need to far underexpose in bright sun. Have also owned 10d and 1d and find the 300d to suffer the most from this issue. Always check histogram in these conditions. The other big difference I notice is how slow the d300 is to review images, painfully slow to write and then review. 1D is lightning fast, even after an 8fps burst.
