Thanks Medicdude. The silhouette was actually a mistake that turned out to be one of my favorite pics.

The first one is awesome, anyone who knows who Neal McCoy is can really appreciate his distinct facial features in it, perfect angle and timing, even if it was an oops! :D Could see this on the back of a CD or the inside cover.

Wow Derek thanks! Once I did this, I've done it with other performers too. It works really well at sun down. I tried to shoot Neal at sundown, and the only place I could shoot from had the sunset behind him. I tried to fill flash, but my flash didn't fire. I almost erased the shot, but even on the little LCD on the 20D, I could see it was special. Just a little tweaking in PP and I was thrilled with the result.

I was gonna say something similar. I could've known it was him without his name in the title. Great shot!

Any PP on these pics? Just wondering because I"m thinking about getting the 1.4x when I get the 70-200 2.8

Yes, actually quite a bit of PP. Shot in Raw, so adjusted color temp to get more glow to the background. Moved into CS3, then cloned out the diagonal wire in the lower right corner, and the headset wire behind his head. Adjusted levels and contrast to get rid of any remaining details such as the faint lettering on his shirt. I had a lot of fun with it.

The 1.4 works great. I'm going to buy a 100 to 400 IS in January, and I excited to see what I can do with 400, the 1.4, and a 1.6 crop factor.

Nice photos. I was at Country Thunder in Twin Lakes WI. this past July. I had Media Press passes and was using the 100-400 L (which was almost too close at times) but did great except at night when a f2.8 was needed.

Unfortunately, I don't have a pass. But I did buy VIP tickets, so I was only 5 rows back. I'd love to buy the 100-400 IS to see what I could do with it.
