looking for a bag to hold a d30, a few lenses, a battery or two, battery charger, AND a small Nikon 2200 point and shoot. I am not sure whether to go with a backpack style bag, or a bag that goes around your shoulder and onto your side, like a messenger bag. Whenever I go on airplanes, buses, or cars, I always take a jansport backpack with stuff ... reading material, CD player, etc etc. So I figure I should get a messenger-style back so I can have a backpack as well as another bag on my person when traveling through airports and stuff. But I don't travel very often and I will mostly use this bag for storage, taking to events, and for a semester abroad (europe). What should I do? I really like the backpack style a lot but i'm afraid I can't use it if I have another backpack on.

So far I am looking at the following models:

http://www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langI d=-1&productId=13002607

Does anyone have experience with any of these or with backpack/messenger bags in general?

Thanks.

If you have to carry a large weight of gear for a long distance, and if you do not need immediate access, then the backpack style is best.

If you carry only a small weight of gear, or for a shorter distance, and if you do need immediate access, then the shoulder style is best.

A backpack will help with the weight. However I carry almost the same equipment and I will hike for 4 to 8 hours with the Tamarac Photomessenger 7. The only issue is I will switch from one sholder to the other ever hour or so. Of course I am used to it and am built like a Swedish farmer. (On my dad's side)

A backpack may be a little hard to access quickly.

I feel that a backpack is a lot tidier than a the messenger style bag. When you fold down the back you can see everything in plain view while in a bag things are on top of each other often.

Regarding your problem with having to carry to backpacks: If you bought a bigger backpack for your photo gear you should be able to stuff the reading material and CD-player in there along with the cameras and lenses.

This model maybe? :

There should be room left over there after putting in the items you described. :D

wow, I like that AWII...the fact that you can attach a tripod to it is pretty cool. But it's a little too (way too) expensive for my budget ... I think I might go with the Edge 300 (http://www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langI d=-1&productId=9405707)

Thanks for the suggestions ... I don't carry around a lot of gear but when I want to get to it I really need to get to it. The messenger style might be best.
