They're all pretty good but I personally think the second (reflections) is fantastic. Nice submission

Great images. Really nice colours and really sharp. What lens and post processing was involved with these?

Thanks for your comments Mike. I shoot a lot of local industrial sites and find that my 10-20 Sigma rarely comes off the camera. The shots above are no exception... As for the editing, these were done with Canon's DPP. Two of these shots also were processed in Dynamic Photo HDR by mediachance.

Thanks for the details :-D

I thought a couple of them might be HDR (first and sixth), but wasn't sure! That's a good thing by the way, because when it is used subtly and you have to question the possibility of it being HDR, I think it's simply a great image, rather than something processed specifically for the special effect.

Nicely done IPS - I'm a big fan of industrial myself. You caught these at a really nice time of day with the angled sun causing some very interesting shadows and texture. This adds well to the 3-D effect on some.

You may want to consider cropping #2 & 6 from the bottom just a little bit to throw the focus of attention more on the stacks and environs immediately surrounding. Keep this up - I'd be interesting in seeing more. Thanks for sharing. - Stu

I'm going to guess that you are also using a CPL filter?

Actually, I don't use a polarizer. I probably should be...

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments!

Here are a few more shots from a previous trip. The Blower House dates to the late 1880s...

Thanks for the feedback. We're in agreement on the use of HDR for this type application. I prefer to use it just to get the shot and make up for the camera's limited dynamic range. If you have to wonder if they are HDR, I consider that a success. Most folks that aren't into photography would just see what I saw on site.

All great shots. I really like the first one with the grain elevators and the "exterior" shot in post #11. You did a good job capturing the desolation of what looks like a pretty cool abandoned industial center

Yep. It was intended to be part of the shot. I took exposures with and without the shadow. It added visual interest, IMHO. The intent was to display the large scale of the plant/smokestack. One of the hard things about industrial shots can be conveying the huge scale of the equipment.

Excellent point, and a nice way of conveying it. I see this with a lot of shots, and have even been guilty of it myself.:D You know the scale of thd subject is large, but you really don't APPRECIATE how big it is without a scale of reference.

Nice shots!

Hey, you are a model RR guy too? Excellent! Come help us out at www.scalerailsonline.com. We could use some posts like the one you linked to. That drawing of the plant is fantastic and would make for a great project on someone's layout.

Jon.
