I have no idea what the reason is behind this...but I installed a new video card yesterday and now I have all 5.9s for scores...how high does the scale go? How high are your scores?
Specs: Vista Ultimate running on an AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+, 4gb RAM, nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS, and 4x WD 500 GB, 3 Gb/s, 16 MB Cache, 7200 RPM

I'm seriously considering going back...so much stuff doesn't work...daily BSOD....I wish they would finally get the SP1 ready to go...maybe that will bring this up to speed.

Basically a speed test on various bits of hardware (biased toward the lowest scoring component).
Microsoft had this kack-handed idea that they sell software that was geared toward experience levels. So if your computer scored a 3.5, you could expect to get reasonable performace out of software with a rating of 3.5 or below on the box.
Needless to say, no one bothered with it and bought software regardless.

That's funny.

Remember it's not an average, it the lowest part of your score that determines it. for me it's my RAM. I'd like to move to 4gb soon...

XP x64 ftw! Faster than Vista, and can address 4GB of RAM (which I have and love).
I'll switch to Vista eventually, but for now XP x64 is better for my uses (heavy multitasking, hardcore gaming). Cheaper too!

Vista addresses 4gb of ram, people just misunderstand how the OS displays it. Old news though.

4gb total. I have a 640mb nvidia 8800GTS, so my physical memory address is only about 3.3gb, meaning I am wasting about 700mb of RAM that a 32bit OS simply cannot use.
Sure, Vista 32 can address 4gb of memory... just not 4gb of RAM.

Exactly. Hardware all in can only address 4gb. My nVidia 7950 has 512, so I get the rest of the addresses.

Hey, my buddy has that card!
I'm assuming with a card like that you game. What do you play?

Nothing! It came with the XPS. I have played rFactor quite a bit though...I'm quite fond of Hockenheim, Spa and Indianapolis.

Cool!
If you like racing games, I'd download Trackmania Nations. It's probably the most fun racing game I've ever played, and it's completely free!

I have no idea why it's free, as it's a very professional game with progressive rankings, beautiful graphics, and a bustling online community. But, it is!
I used to play it a whole lot (I was actually ranked number 14 in the entire United States at one point ::oops:). If you're ever bored with rFactor, give it a try.

I'm at a 4.7. My RAM is dragging my score down.
