I went to a Bush rally at St.Paul's Xcell Center and they would not allow me to bring in a mono-pod. I had called the local field office of the Secret Service and they said OK but, when I got there they would not allow me to bring it in.

I must say I don't find this too surprising.
I mean most monopods look like little more than a long black rod... something that from even only 20feet away could be pretty easily mis Identified.. especially in a crowd.
As far as the phoning ahead.. this was of course an excellent idea.. but with things of this nature you will find that the final word will end up going to the Officer on the scene... and well that's probably the way it should be,.as he/she is the one who will have to deal with the consequnces.
There are many more mundane reasons and places theat do no allow 'pods of any kind. Most museums etc...

Maybe it's because the monopod wouldn't sigh the loyalty oath required to enter a Bush rally...
