Hi everyone, a newbee here!! I am about ready to take the digital plunge. How many pictures can be taken before filling up the memory on a "stock" 10D. Also how long does the battery last and is it rechargeable. Thanks for being patient with a newbee!

I would suggest reading the product info on the canon site. It will answer a lot of your questions and you can compare the cameras they have to offer.

How many photos can fit on a card depends on what setting you are shooting. I know on fine jpg I get roughly 75 shots on a 256 card. I don't know what size card comes with a "stock" 10D. Mine didn't come with any.

And yes the battery is rechargeable. It lasts a good while but again, it all depends on what settings you have on your camera.

On a 256 mb card I usually get 80-90 high quality jpegs.

Assuming 10D and the Rebel are the same, one battery lasts about 4 hours of selective shooting. IE: at the zoo, I am walking around shooting and deleting the bad ones looking at LCD... The camera have never shut down on me yet, but the low battery is there sometimes.

You can get 10 dollar batteries for the canon. You can get either a laptop or separate HD for dloading your pics as you shoot.

This way you can really be trigger happy.

Welcome to the forums! :)

You can find a lot of information about the 10D and many other cameras on dpreview.com (http://www.dpreview.com). There is the information about the 10D (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_eos10d.asp) and an in-depth review (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos10d/).

There's also a preview of the 20D (http://www.dpreview.com/articles/canoneos20d/) with in-depth comparisons with the 10D.

D60 (same res. as 10D and DR) is good for about 400 hi-res large Jpegs on a 1 GB card and single battery charge (fewer if high ISO or flash being used).
