Help!

What mode does my camera (D60) have to been on for my computer to be able to download images. I have torn the lame-ass instruction books apart and can't find anything. Also, I have installed the Canon software, restarted my computer, installed Photoshop and then turned on my camera. The camera and scanner folder reads that my camera has no properties. Everything is hooked up right and I have already installed and uninstalled the software twice. HELP!

I'm not sure what you did wrong or anything.

But by using a CF card reader, it is a lot more convenient and a lot faster in my opinion.

There is no camera setting needed. If the Canon s/ware isn't doing the trick, try this;

Don't connect the camera to the PC yet.
Download and install the free Breeze Downloader from www.breezesys.com.
Reboot the PC if needed.
Plug the cable into the camera ONLY then turn the camera on.
Now plug the cable into the PCs USBsocket.
You should get a dialog box pop up asking what application you wish to use - I expect there will be at least two listed.
Choose the Breeze Downloader and it should connect to the camera and list all the files available.

I gave up with the D60 driver and use a card reader, as suggested. No problems. The only quirky thing about the card reader is that you have to take out the CF card cable to the USB port and reinsert it before Zoombrowser recognises the card reader. But I can live with that.

This sounds like standard behaviour. If a USB device is not plugged then it effectively deactivated and not recognised in the system.

I've gone one step further and don't use any of the canon software or connections and it works fine for me. I use a card reader, copy the files (photos) to my selected hard drive and use Breeze Browser to sort and identify before copying, archiving and editing.

You don't mention which computer type and operating system you are using so it's pretty hard to help. If you are using a Windows system, make sure you have downloaded the lastest Twain and USB drivers from Canon. Install the drivers as instructed, and connect your camera and turn it on (in any mode). Your computer should detect "New Hardware" and load the drivers. With the camera still turned on, go the Control Panel/ Scanners and Cameras and you should see the D60 icon. If you don't see it, you probably have a hardware problem or defective USB cord.
