Am I the only one who rofled when they heard about the M/S Explorer crashing?

Quite possibly...

Thankfully there are 154 lucky people who survived the freezing waters.

Your joking, right?

Your joking, right?

You honestly can't find any humor in the situation, particularly considering that no one was seriously injured in the incident? I can't be the only total geek around here...

Yes, I find humor in the situation, dark humor, but humor none the less.

I DO find the references to the Titanic funny, since the two incidents are absolutely nothing alike.

None at all.

Having spent time on Canadian Coast Guard ice breakers and seeing the work they do, as well as the possible tragedy that was averted by the proper preparedness of the crew, I see an awful event that was narrowly avoided.

Fortuned smiled on these passengers and crew that other ships were nearby to pick them up. Many hours of exposure would have been very harmful.

Misfortune followed by the actions of a prepared and trained crew and the luck of having another ship nearby.

This is just not funny in any way.

"The ship ran into some ice. It was submerged ice and the result was a hole about the size of a fist in the side of the hull so it began taking on water ... but quite slowly,"

that's pretty weird that a small hole like that made the ship sunk. that ship didn't have any pump to get the water out or what?

this ship (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Cole_bombing) had a 35 foot hole in it and did not sink...

someone need to investigate what cause this...

I have a feeling the placement of the hole is an awful lot more important than the size of the hole.

The Titanic sank because water went above the bulkheads. I gather this ship had several major test fails that had gone unfixed.

Anything that goes near icebergs is at extreme danger of sinking. Having said that, most ships are designed so that if two or more compartments are flooded, the ship should not sink. It seems as though many of the compartments were linked and therefore water flooded the one side and then the other. Perhaps the stabiliser system was holed?

did you see the size of the hole in the link i posted. i don't care where the fist size hole was, if this ship was up to the regulation this would of not happen.

this is what i was talking about...

he was referring to the name of the ship and that it sank not laughing at the fact the ship sank .. if that makes sense.

a lot of people complain about MS explorer and use other software to surf the web...

:oops::oops: I can't believe I missed that :oops::oops:

And here I was wondering what kind of person would find humour in a potential tragedy. My appologies to all.

Sometimes we don't see beyond the stuff we've trained for, no matter how long ago.

@DozerlYP:
Never thought about the difference between a battleship and a commercial ship?
The battleship has a lot of bulkheads which saves the ship to get sunk by a hole even with a big size. The hull of a commercial liner is one piece, a small hole can sink it over the time - what has happened.
