Is there a significant difference between the $80 50mm 1.8 Canon lense, and the $300 50mm 1.4 USM lense?
Is it $220 worth of difference? :?: :?

Hi IM2postal,
welcome to the forum!
take a look at this link to find a great comparison of the two lenses:
http://www.photo.net/equipment/canon/ef50/
However, if it is worth the difference for you, that is only for you yourself to decide.
Generally the 1.8/50 is as sharp as the 1.4/50 and does most things nearly as good ... so it is a great lens at an even greater price.
However, if you go for that last 10% of performance and the more solid build, then it might be worth three times the price for you to get the 1.4/50.
Also, do a forum search for this issue. This question has been asked a lot of times by interested photographers and answered by experts. Maybe if you look at these other threads, you'll find out what others in your position came up with.
Best regards,
Andy
