I'm looking to buy a used 35mm SLR for a friend for her B-day. She really wants to learn about photography, so i figured i'd get her an SLR, so i can teach her a little bit. I was wondering where you guys think i could find something, online or maybe in person (i live in San Francisco). I just want something simple, full manual control, no bells n whistles. Just the basics. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Online: most photography boards have buy&sell sections
Here, FM etc etc
Ebay, sometimes overpriced, sometime not.

In person: I don't think I have ever been to a camera shop that did not have a used camera for sale. 3mm SLR's can be easily found at your local camera dealer.

Pawnshops is one of the best & hurry before school starts. New students buy them up quickly.

Best place, if you are a cautious buyer, is eBay!

You can get about anything there. Thousands of items every day.

Just stick to sellers with good feedback ratings.
