I recently noticed this problem with my SD400. Whenever I take pictures outside during the day, regardless if taken in shadow or in direct sun, the pictures all come out overexposed.

I've changed settings, reset them, and still have the problem. Talked to Canon and they suggest that it needs recalibrated or something similar.

Is anyone else having this problem? And if so, could it be repaired at home? I'm leaving for WDW in less than 2 weeks with my family and don't have time to mail it to Canon for a repair.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. And if it comes down to having to buy a new camera: SD600 or SD1000?

Show us a few shots. Are you sure it's not highlights getting clipped? If Canon said it requires calibrating (most likely the metering settings for the camera), then you won't be able to do anything yourself.

Yes - examples will be helpful. You can use the Camera Manual program and dial in some - Exposure Compensation if it's consistently off until getting a fix. IIRC the SD1000 succeeded the SD600; IDK if you can still find SD600s.

This one looks like bad lighting, but it's how all my outdoor photos look now.

Are you sure you haven't left the EC (Exposure Compensation) on something like +2?

If not, you need to send that camera in to Canon.

I just double checked and all the settings are set at 0. I guess I'll be sending it in and borrowing a camera for my trip.

Maybe the shutter is sticking open. If so, outdoor daylight pics will be overexposed and indoor pics may be more normal. Let us know what Canon says. Thanks.
