I am really new to this and am shooting with a 35-80mm it Lense. :D
My 70-200 F4L isn't here yet. C&C welcome :)

the exposure is a little down in the second image but good in the first image
you could crop the first image a little closer and the second image is a little soft
but good start, did you take many more shots?

Nice stuff... a good start
My advice would be:
Get lower - shoot from a sitting or kneeling position, this will help engage the viewer more
Shoot wider open - your new f/4 lens will help this and the narrower DOF will help you to isolate the subject matter
Shoot tighter - fill the frame for a more dramatic effect
Meter manually - use that lovely grass as a basis for your meter reading
Try to shoot tussles - one-on-one action always makes for a good shot
Experiment with shooting positions - players coming towards you always make for good shots - also sometimes a different position may help to get better, uncluttered backgrounds
Shoot into the sun too - expose for the shadows and get dramatic backlit shots where the tufts of grass and sweat fly up
Hope that's some help!
