View Full Version : Anyone play Call of Duty 4?

So I went to wally world last night and got Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the 360. Absolutely awesome game. I can't stress that enough. One problem, though...
I just beat it!
There was a lot to it, but it still seemed quite short. Anyone else think so? I'm gonna try and bring it back and get something else. :p
Anyone else think this one was cut off a bit quick? Anyone have gripes about any other 360 games?

You played it through in one night?
Thats shocking. Is it geared heavily for multi-player?
I really enjoyed COD 3, played it right through a couple of times in-fact.
I would expect COD 4 to be better, and longer.

COD 4 is killer. I played it for a few hours on my buddies computer the other day.

After beating COD1 and COD2, and not buying COD3 - I have no interest in COD4. But it does look pretty!

I didn't like 1, I loved 2, hated 3, LOVE 4. Maybe it's a cycle. 4 is absolutely killer. It's an awesome game.
It probably took me a good 10 hours to play through. I'm awfully good at these games, though, so you can't gauge me on time alone.

I gave up on games after I couldn't complete GRAW (Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter) -- got to a certain point that I spent a whole month trying to get past and couldn't do it. Sad :-(

Awesome Title!!... Got it on Nov-06 by accident, long story.
I am at the point where the story seems to end, but who knows.
I really like several things about this particular program:
- Immersiveness: The missions and non linear design are not much to write home about, nor is the AI for the bots that form your squad. However, the game has a way (through audio and FX) to immerse you into this chaotic scenario, where your stress level goes up, and your priorities become killing the enemy and staying as far away from lead as possible.
- Visual Improvement: First game ever I have ever seen making use of the Depth of Field effect. Nothing fancy -again- but a highly effective tool, which all too well gives you the typical disorientation when you go from sights to scanning with both eyes, or the attention to detail from running to ducking behind cover.
Favorite moment of the Game so far?... The Chernobyl / Sniper Mission. The realism, it kept my arse glued to the chair at 3am, while walking within yards of enemy forces.
Good entertainment. I am actually about to turn off my mac and give this game on PC another go, see if I can finish it tonight.
Ghost Recon 2 (GRAW) is very good as well.
Rainbow Six Vegas - I liked it, though I stopped playing both clancy games and get COD4 going.
Cheers, Ron.

I love this game! The single player is a bit on the short side IMO, but I've been playing it online constantly, it's wayyyy too fun!
PhotoJourno, I'm with you, GRAW is also a sweet game!

PhotoJourno, I'm with you, GRAW is also a sweet game!
Thanks, Charles.
I do recommend that game (GRAW 2), strongly.
Terrain is well designed, and pretty realistic looking.
Absolute best feature of this game: AI Bots. Your teammates are the smartest YET than any other first person shooter or tactical game out there. I will never forget getting the Demo, and playing its level. I ran for cover forward, diving for cover behind a car, and supressing fire ahead, from two or three sources. When I turned around, my sniper had taken a smaller cover in the middle of the road with a knee on the ground, and immediately neutralized one source of fire. My rifleman came directly behind the SAW operator, and stopped behind me with cover of the car. Blah, I thought, what I thought could be great wasn't. Who knows, the sniper must have done the right maneuver by pure chance.
But it was not so!!, the rifleman came behind me on the right, and covered that area, peeking out towards the source of shots fired, and also covering from rear and side attacks. The SAW Operator came to my left, and began supressing the enemy fire. I commanded the rifleman to follow me, and as the sniper advanced to the car, me and the rifleman were able to flank the pinned forces from the right, and get a pretty good kill zone, at some 35-40degs to one side, allowing us to see them well.
No other game has this capability. Sure it is longer and a bit more boring by many standards. But it is the perfect Chess game of Today's battlefields.
Is Tommy Clancy Cliche? You bet your arse he is. But, Pandemic Studios (if I remember correctly) did a hell of a job with the game.
Last thought "Don't draw enemy fire. It irritates those around you..." ;)
Cheers,

I'm waiting on 4 to get released for the Wii.
Hey Ron, how far are you in NFS Carbon? I also picked up pro street this weekend and cannot wait to play it tomorrow!
I am 40% of the way through my career with NFS Carbon with just a few hours worth of playing.

I play CoD4 on my PC, I am currently a Lieutenant Cornel. Call of Duty 4 stole me from Battlefield 2, and I will never again play any Battlefield game.
GRAW and GRAW 2 are way to over worked, I like both but not for online game play.

I don't know if COD4 would be such a great idea on the wii. Or if its even coming out? I think the graphics were part of the immersiveness of the whole deal

I'll be getting COD4 pretty soon. I had COD1 and didn't like it; loved 2 and didn't see the point in getting 3. But 4 looks VERY interesting. I'm playing Halo3 online (awsome online!!) too much at the moment.
With Halo 3 online as you're in the lobby, you get to chat and see everyones achievements. I heard one guy saying how he thought the campaign was too easy and he completed it in 3 hours... I looked at his achievements and he had only completed it on the easy level.
I find that these guys just want to be able to say "I've completed it bla, bla, bla". Surely it would be better value for money if these guys upped the difficulty? I finished the game on normal and I'm now working my way through the legendary setting which for me; is a damn site harder!... and more fun! Kind of wish that I started on legendary first??? But I get the Halo series for online play mostly.

Ronald ... I believe there is a war going on in the Middle East just now ... worth you signing up perhaps? It seems to feature some highly realistic action scenes and unlike most games it is hard to predict what is around the corner waiting for you. Just a thought.

I gotta say the sniper mission was the highlight of single player. Why don't they make an entire COD game like that? Sneaking around being close to the enemy is the most fun. Thief, Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid, etc. Are my kind of games.
I'm Black Shadovv on xBox Live, that's shadoV V with two v's.

CoH = Company of Heroes. It is an RTS (Real Time Strategy) game made by Relic. It really draws one into the action, and great for military History fans. If you loved playing those PanzerBlitz, Panzer Leader board games by SSI, you will really like CoH. I guess I was a weird nerdy kid back then, and still am ;)

COD4 single player was very nicely done, but the thing that really sets the game ahead is the multi player. The experience/perks system adds a lot to what is perfect multi player already. I'm really looking forward to my next LAN game as we'll be using COD4 and Unreal Tournament 3. Nothing beats death match when the person you just got a head shot on is sitting right next to you. :)
COD4 isn't like real combat? Wow, really? I completely thought sitting at my desk clicking away at the mouse would be just like being in a war zone. And I even got an X-fi card for better bullets whizzing past me sounds. Do you not get a grenade indicator in real life then?
Anyone try Crysis? Fun game, but they really needed to get a few more of the bugs out, it was pretty much riddled with them. And Portal? That game was great!

I have played COD4 from start to finish. I loved the game. (I don't have a job at the mo) there was some really hard parts to it. I only played single player and I would have loved to have a better video card to make it look really nice. However that never stops the game play. anyone that has played FPS in the past should try this out. this game rocks. as for multi player, who knows. I haven't played that.

man I have just finished this game. I loved it more than COD4. I don't know what bugs are you talking about. I played the PC version of the game. However I did have everything turned off and running it at 800x600. not only does it look like doom 2 on my 24" monitor, it doesn't stop the game play any. I loved the game a lot and looking forward to the next chapter.
so what bugs are you talking about. if there was any it never stopped the enjoyment of it.
currently I am playing half life 2 episode 2. I loved half life 1 and 2 and episode 1 and 2 isn't disappointing me yet.

There weren't any that ground the game to a halt, but there were a lot of little errors, like bad clipping, and looping sounds. Apparently there is a patch on its way already which will hopefully deal with a lot of them.
I enjoyed the game, but preferred COD4. I wish they had let us have some more fun with the TAC launcher, seeing that thing in normal use in one of the mods is really entertaining.
I got Orange Box too. Only completed Portal so far and loved it (hence my current signature). Had a bit of fun with Team Fortress as well. Not put much time into the extra half life stuff though, although I do plan to, hopefully, sometime, when I have time.

Its a $50 game. As bad influences go its probably one of the cheapest purchases someone can make as a result of reading stuff on this forum. :)
The single player play like you are in a movie. The first mission particularly (on the boat) is like the before the titles part of a James Bond movie. It's all really well done. Then you unlock Ragtime mode and its suddenly like a 1920s movie, even down to the music. :)

The Orange Box has to be the best value in gaming, period.
I've never played any of the Half-Life series so I was really happy to see the orange box come out. I'm just starting on Episode I, about 10 minutes into it.
Team Fortess is a riot, it's more laid back "fun" then COD4 on LIVE.
But my love is Portal, such a fresh new concept in gaming.

I don't know, i still think its a great game, especially for a new IP. Of course a game as hyped as assasins creed was, especially for the lack of press demonstrations it got, some people were bound to get disappointed. I think its a great game though.

i suppose it can be repetitive to have to do the same save citizen quest 8-10 times in each city, but i didn't really expect gameplay to be too varied. I don't know, i still think its a great game, especially for a new IP. Of course a game as hyped as assasins creed was, especially for the lack of press demonstrations it got, some people were bound to get disappointed. I think its a great game though.
Dont get me wrong, it is a great game. I was just expecting a lot from it.
Anyone play quake wars?

another short game is Halo 3. finished Normal in 4 hours (had to run through it though).
some of the other games i play are Rainbow Six Vegas, the Ghost Recon series including GRAW, the Splinter Cell series, and some of the Metal Gear series. FPS are fun!

You can get an X1950 pro for about $130 although they are disappearing quick. Or, an 8600GT for $100 is a pretty good kick in the pants for an older system.
Or, HP just released the Blackbird 2. The top of the line version has dual 8800 GTX Ultras with 768Mb RAM each, water cooled. Bargin at $6500. Oh, it doesn't come with a screen so you'd need to add that. At least you'd be the only person on the planet able to play Crysis at high rez with the settings maxed.

I just unlocked the best of the 3 light machine guns. If you can complete every objective for every weapon in that class you get shiny gold camo for it. Of gold isn't exactly camo so much as a status symbol. You know you want to be the one running around with a gold MP-44 though. :)
I wish there were more good sniper levels. The level design is great but that seems to be the only thing lacking. Aside from the Shipment level which is retarded if there are any more then 4 players.
What servers do you guys play on? I'll have to start keeping an eye out. It'd be great to get shot in the back of the head by another POTNer.
Ronald S. Jr.

I just pick "find match" under team deathmatch 99% of the time. I'm up to Gunnery Sergeant II now, and I put a clan tag of "POTN" on my name so people would see me. Mine will say " [POTN] Ronald S Jr " .
I don't believe I've ever used the light machine guns. Always assault rifles and silenced pistols. I prefer the G36C and especially the M4 carbine with the dot sight, and to avoid being on their radar from no silencer I use the jamming perk. I've been having way too much fun. I've almost got the M4 Marksman II challenge done which will give me 1000 xp. yay!
I can't stand the "vacant" level, and the "bog" level is frustrating with being so very open to everything. Few good hiding places.

I love the Last Stand perk for when people aren't paying attention. Sure, 8 times out of 10 it gets you nowhere, but for the few times you manage to empty a clip into the person who just shot you and take them down too. :)
Other than that I always take claymores to cover my back if I find a good hidey hole somewhere.
Have you managed the flyswatter achievement yet? I seem to be cursed to never shoot the damn thing down.
Ronald S. Jr.

Crysis was good. Annoying ending though. I really preferred COD4 which had the decency to wrap a complete story into the single player, and a really good one at that. Felt more like a movie.
Haven't tried Crysis multi. A lot of my multiplayer time is LAN rather than online and Crysis is too much of a system killer, only about half the group can run it at a decent rate. I've got to leave everything on medium or it can get jumpy at times.
Anyone tried Unreal Tournament 3 yet? I tried the demo and it was OK. Same game, prettier graphics. Probably pick up the full version when the price drops a bit.

COD4 was well optimized on the PC, even the folks with the older systems have not had any trouble running it. Crysis though runs more like a tech demo. Guess its my fault for not having a quad core, and dual 8800 ultras. :)
Played some COD4 last night. Funny how sometimes you are just not in the game. I sucked. :) Couldn't figure out what weapon was working for me, and was just about pulling a 1:1 kill to death ratio. Quite sad really. I did however get the fly swatter done, thanks for your comment about aiming for the pilot. About half a mag from an M60 took it down.

All ghillied up? Love that mission. Either Cpt. MacMillan, or go right between the two guys that are between the tanks. Don't full press the joystick, as you'll move too quick and they'll spot you. Half move so that it's a slow crawl. Getting out after taking Zakhaev down isn't easy. LOTS of fellas coming after you, as well as several dogs. The part where you carry the Cpt. isn't easy, either. Have to keep putting him down.

hmmmmm, I don't know.
I find FPS on the PS2 much easier than with a mouse and keyboard on the PC. Although a PC is more customisable and I've watched some CS players who were just frightening with thier speed and accuracy.

Yeah, my old PC wouldn't touch it. The new one smokes its
I used to use the PS2 a lot forgaming when I got it because my PC was simply to slow.

Hmmm, around NZ$800, which is about US$600.
About 1/3 the cost of my new PC, and a couple of hundred short of my better halfs new car (a '94 Toyota Starlet).
More importantly its also about half the cost of a good second hand 70-200 2.8. Which is far more important at the moment :D:D:D (and thanks to the new PC, now some time off).
Its also a good chunk the mortatage payments.

POTN, FTW!
Gamertag: Black ShadoVV (remember, that's 2 "V"'s not a "W") I'll change my clan tag to POTN.
I just got to Level 55 because in Hardcore you only had 1 choice in game play so you leveled really slow but now you can choose to play only Search & Destroy and easily get 1,000-1,500XP per game which levels you up quick. Point is, I've played a lot but haven't gotten the ranking I should have.
Oh and I wanted to share a little secret with you guys...
In my experience I do the best when I use these two custom setups:
"Offender"
G36C>Grenade Launcher
M14>Grenade Launcher
Perks:
(Grenade Launcher takes 1st slot)
Overkill
Deep Penetration
In open maps you can really tick people off with grenade launchers, and since you have them on both guns you get 4 grenades. The G36C works great all around and the M14 is good for long distance.
"Defender"
Barrett .50Cal
P90>Silencer
Perks:
Claymores
Overkill
Deep Penetration
Setup Claymores and snipe away, if you hear somebody coming switch to P90 and they'll be shocked cause they thought you would have a pistol!
